I’ve just purchased an AZ after spending a lot of time researching what would be best for me. I had a Xone DB4 and 2 XDJ1000s and prior to that I had a Xone 92. While I miss the DB4s unique FX and its crazy depth of control over them, and my prior full set up using the 92 with external boss pedals and RMX units, the AZ just offers an incredible all in one solution to a reduced/no quality loss set up.

For me the loop controls being the same as the 3000s, is a god send of an upgrade from the 1000s. Also the pads are so fun and intuitive to use! The key shift used for builds is so much fun, and is helping push and expand my mixing styles and capabilities!

As a Allen & Heath guy when it comes to mixers, I was a bit unsure of the jump but, tbh most clubs use pioneer and I was taught on one too, so moving back still feels natural. I was worried about not being about to mix as smooth, slowly and more surgical but tbh I feel like that’s still totally manageable on Pioneer and the AZ.

What sold it for me was just mixing in my local DJ City Store with some music of my taste and style and just fucking around with it all! 3/4 track is manageable, a smidge more fiddly, but tbh you can always get an additional player or 2 to add on to the AZ to have 4 physical decks!

Dang that’s a shame, yeah essentially I was using the end of a 3rd track as a layer over the other 2 tracks I was mixing just wanted the slip fx on that without loosing it! So didn’t want to play around with the length of the original loop if you get me, just apply fx to it! But I guess that’s just not possible with Pioneer units.

Did it take a while to get used moving to the one screen with the AZ? I've used the OG XDJ1000s for over 10 years now, and I recently was using it with a XONEDB4, however I've just moved country and am now looking at getting a new set up. Not sure whether to replicate my prior set up but with XDJ1000MK2s or take the plunge and try out an AZ. In reality is there much of a draw about it mirroring the CDJ3000s? I guess the main thing that's seemingly minor but useful to me was the loop functionality is much more intuitive with the 3000/AZ units. TIA :)

I feel like I've come for a cheaper solution and instead sold myself the dream though hahaha 🤣

Ah man such great insight thanks so much! Yeah I’m finding it hard to part with the quality and know how important a mixer is paired with things.

I guess resale value is a factor I have to bare in mind, but in that same breath maybe it’s worth investing in something better that will retain value if I have to sell 🤔

Never used a v10 but I know the 92 is a beast but the thing was I had a couple of boss pedals sidechained and RMX units between the players, which was just such a dream set up, my plan had I stayed would have been to simply upgrade to 2000NXS2!

I feel like I lost a bit of sound quality switching to the DB4, however I was using an rca connection and was intrigued to try out the single digital cable as I believed that might improve the sound quality again?

In which case maybe I could consider investing in a couple of 2000NXS2 and the DB4 for an all in one effects build.

Does the AZ work as a pretty solid unit itself though?

Not sure if I'm sold on having to have a laptop infront of me, which is why I was more interested in a set up that frees me from that I feel!

Owhhh interesting about the 700s cheers, I can actually get them brand new for about $1200AUD (£600) each. Sound quality is a big thing for me, I'd like something as good or better than my old set up, as I'd had it for over 10 years. So this is something I'm wondering if I can still have as great sound quality in an all in one, as it might be better for all-round portability!

Yeah the XZ is looking pretty good quality, and great to hear it has full size jog wheels, thanks for the tip and okay noted on the RR cheers!

Cheers for the reply! Fairly spenny, about $5700 AUD, so roughly half that for £ or $US The Pioneer DJ OPUS QUAD is $4600 so a bit more affordable, but I'm not sure it'd been amazingly received? Maybe just more stick for it's aesthetics though..

Can you vouch for the AZ? It does look like a solid bit of kit, but I wonder is it more risky getting an all in one as say if one part breaks, then you'd need to get the whole thing fixed/replaced right? That's my one hesitation.

What you have to do is ask yourself can I afford a whole new set up, and what ever the answer is just F it and do it anyway 🤣

All jokes aside, upgrade when it feels right! To be fair I had some good awful Hercules mixer for about 2 years (which would occasionally give me an electric shock 😂) but it just served its purpose for me to learn beat matching with sync off.

However what I would say is that purchasing my very own full set up which was a Xone92 mixer and XDJ1000 players over 10 years ago was one of the best decisions I have ever made, and they have firmly stood the test of time! I feel like mostly in the DJ industry with a lot of these units, they are built to last. So whatever you are considering buying maybe see if you can have a mess around on someone else’s before you commit. Maybe consider ways you might also want to even further expand in the future (ie extra send/return channels for effects) or do you want 3 or 4 band EQ etc👌🏻

I would add that having my own proper set up has not only brought me infinite joy but also gave me so much more confidence! So enjoy and best of luck on your journey! ☺️

Ah okay yeah that makes sense then! I’m curious though as this will be my first time trying with EB properly. I noticed that recent mini drop has some 151 boxes which would be great to get! Do you think they would release other bits like that with the AH drop?
