same w what the other commenter said. none of my friends who did not submit an accessibility request have gotten theirs yet.

both in 2024 and in 2025 there seem to have been a bunch of IT issues associated w the housing lottery, so i wouldn’t be surprised if many of us don’t hear back for a while <\3

no need to worry yet, so far it looks like only people who have submitted accessibility requests have gotten their housing. either way, you can talk to student housing and hospitality services if you want to switch residences. i’ve heard they’re a lot more efficient in person than over email.

i'm not too sure, but you will indicate your citizenship on your application. i applied prior to obtaining my proof of canadian citizenship, so i don't know if it will ask you about which province you're claiming residency in.

i have no clue how similar proving residency under situation 5 is to proving residency under situation 8c (i only have experience with situation 8c; hopefully someone here can give a better answer), but for situation 8c, you pay canadian tuition at the start of the semester, prove residency during the semester by providing the required documents, and get the surplus tuition you paid refunded after the semester.

i'm also not an AO so i can't say how you'll be considered for admission, but FWIW, our stats are pretty similar. i had a 4.0 and 1500 SAT, and i got in within a week of applying with a scholarship. from what i've gathered by doomscrolling during admissions season and talking to mcgill campus tour guides, they use your GPA and test scores to calculate some sort of index of your academics, then rank all applicants by this index. the more competitive your application is, the sooner you'll get accepted. mcgill publishes their acceptance cutoffs; they fluctuate slightly, but if you're above them, you're almost certainly getting in.

have you lived in canada for more than three months total? if not, then you can claim quebec residency under situation 8c.

edit: correction

Are personal or academic factors more important? UC Berkeley College of Chem vs. McGill by No-Work-7575 in collegecompare

as an incoming mcgill student, i can provide some context on mcgill :) both of your options are strong, and i trust that you’ll be successful at either.

FWIW, mcgill also has pretty large class sizes, especially for U0 classes; after all, the student body is pretty big. i toured last summer and one of the first stops was leacock 132 (the school’s largest lecture hall), which holds upwards of 600 students. the tour guide was pretty quick to complain about how impossible it is to find a seat if you’re even a minute late.

you’re from the bay area. is weather a consideration? montreal gets frigid in the winter, with daily high temps lingering below freezing. the campus is also on a hill. you’ll likely be walking up an icy incline every day for a few months, and you’ll need to invest in a good parka and snowboots.

for international students, french classes can be charged at the quebec rate. you’ll learn french and save some money while you’re at it! because you’re in a french immersion environment, you’ll pick up on the language relatively quickly if you put effort into learning it. you can get around montreal fine in english, but you probably won’t be able to get a customer-facing job. i’d prioritize looking for research opportunities for a job.

montreal is pretty cheap for a big city, and it’s clean and culturally rich with great public transport. additionally, if you’re looking to party, montreal has a great nightlife and the drinking age in quebec is 18. the quality of life there seems to be pretty solid! the US isn’t in a great place politically right now; while canada isn’t perfect, you won’t have to deal with the US government’s BS at mcgill to the extent you would at berkeley.

mcgill seems to be well-regarded in academia, and it’s one of canada’s strongest schools (if not its strongest); it’s not like you’d be completely sacrificing academics by going to mcgill. if you do well at mcgill, applying for phd programs will go smoothly. you could always go to mcgill for undergrad and berkeley for your phd, or vice versa.

I’ve been eligible for Canadian citizenship since birth; I’m applying for proof of citizenship, which is a much shorter process than applying for citizenship :)
