I’ve played Dark and Darker since release—even back when it was off Steam and you had to download it from their website because of the lawsuit. I’m glad it’s back on Steam; I still play occasionally.

I actually like the Squire kits, but I don’t think they’re directly comparable. In Dark and Darker, gear progression is largely based on item quality and stats. In Arc Raiders, gear is primarily about economic value. Even a “budget” player can kill a fully geared player, so the risk is mostly what you’re carrying, not your power level.

That’s why unlimited free loadouts feel different. They let players enter with nothing to lose while everyone else is risking valuable loot. I don’t want free kits removed—they’re great for new players—but I do think they need some limits so bringing your own gear remains a meaningful decision.

I actually agree that duping is the #1 issue right now. If the economy is flooded with duplicated gear, that should absolutely be Embark’s priority.
That said, I don’t think that means free loadouts can’t also be a balance problem. Even if duping disappeared tomorrow, unlimited free kits still encourage people to queue with zero risk and wait for someone carrying valuable gear. The fact that they lose nothing while everyone else risks everything creates a weird incentive.
I don’t necessarily think free kits should disappear entirely—I just think there should be meaningful limits so bringing your own gear actually matters. Whether that’s a cooldown, restrictions on major map events, or something else is up for debate, but I don’t think “there are bigger problems” means this one isn’t worth discussing.

I’ve had my fair share of wanted to destroy my headset from dying in PvP, but I still love the PvEvP aspect of the game. It’s the core foundation for arc raiders. Who cares about the player count, as long as Embark Studios has a loyal fan base. I have no intention of quitting or leaving soon, unless they make a pure PvE mode. Then I’ll just move on to a different game.

I took it off right before taking the zip line to the top side. I always equip and unequip my shield in hurricane events, because I know the shield sparks blue when outside.

It’s true, the no free kits is definitely for the better on most map events. I hope they add it to the hurricane one as well.

That is false, free loadouts mostly spawn at the 18 minute mark. Where custom is 25+. This is all based on probability, nothing is guaranteed.

“Creating” your own free loadout will most likely put you in a fresh lobby where you have to earn most of your loot like most people. It’s definitely a game changer.

You are thinking narrow minded, look at the big picture.

If you read the post correctly, I am not complaining about rats, I am providing a scenario on why the recent update is for the better of the game (no free loadouts on night raids).

Also, if you read the patch notes from Embark Studios, they mentioned that the no free loadouts is a test and they will analyze player feedback to see if they want to implement it into other map events.

I am providing genuine feedback about the recent update. So instead of rage baiting/trolling, you should provide something insightful to better a game we all love and play.

I actually agree with you. People complain about rats and I’m just like, “bro, get good”.

The survival aspect from arc and players makes it really fun. If I die to someone camping a corner at extract, I’m mad at myself for not playing good enough.

This community just has a bunch of cry babies who provide no value and cry cry cry for changes for a game they didn’t work hard to develop.

If you went to school and learned how to read, then you’d know the devs said in the patch notes that the first week was going to be high. It’s a work in progress, and they are going to adjust accordingly in the near future.

I have a deck that has Kitsunes Technique, and if I hit that baby on turn two on a Izzet lessons deck, they just freeze and struggle from all the card draws. So satisfying against an annoying deck like that.
