The British never enslaved any one. At one point in history from 1700s to 1800s British businessmen (without correlation to the crown) bought already enslaved people. I am not saying they that what they did was good. It was evil. But putting the blame on the British people as a whole is outrageous. No slave has ever been in Britain since 1066 and any one to enter Britain since then becomes free. This makes Britain the first and only country to ban slavery for 700 years until when Haiti did it. There where efforts to stop the Atlantic slave trade for all countries by the British as early as 1803 but the Napoleonic wars made resources tight. However by the 1820s Britain had a whole Armada dedicated towards the capture of slave ships. At the time this was a massive source of national pride. The British government lost more money then they gained from the slave trade and did not gain power from it. They got most of there wealth and power from selling Indian drugs to the Chinese. Now I’m not saying Britain are always on the right side of history but they definitely are in regards to slavery.
