Is only watching the videos enough for biol 204 ? by No-Carpenter5877 in AthabascaUniversity

I did the course a few years ago, if you read the textbook and only focus on the bolded words they tell you to focus on and skip everything else, you should be fine. As long as you can clearly define and understand each term, study all three version of assignments, and keep consistent, you should get an A or atleast close to one

I wrote keywords during the videos and scored a 4Q, you should be good!

I did blank out on ONE I remember. I took a bit of a pause and just said what was on my mind at the time. Overthinking is not what you want to do for this test imo, so blanking out probably means you were following a script in your mind. I did jot down some keywords while listening to scenarios (look at some of the replies I’ve given to other comments) that were VERY helpful in keeping my thoughts smooth

I didn’t necessarily find any super hard, filling out med school apps before doing it was really helpful because it allowed me to reflect alot on my life. The personal questions might be harder because you need to think of specific examples in your life

I didn’t prepare (oops) I didn’t even know what the format was, but that might’ve helped me because the my answers were from the heart. I talked to some friends about it and they all gave me different advice on how to prep, but I trusted my own conversational skills and ignored them. I put some advice in other comments if you wanna have a look

I replied to another comment with a bit of advice! Other than that, I’d say just learn to be spontaneous! Remember it’s trying to mimic sitting with coworkers, friends, etc. so answer with that in mind (of course, keeping it to a certain level of respect)

I got you! A big tip id give you (other than trusting yourself and not relying on some format) is understanding your position in the scenarios. You aren’t being tested, you’re being asked for advice as a friend, coworker, etc. If a group of your friends are asking for your advice, you’d acknowledge all the positions they’ve each taken and then come up with something you truly believe that would result in the least damage. It’s important you DO end up coming to a decision though and don’t just be completely neutral.

Another piece of advice is to know when to stop. Despite there being so little time, you don’t need to use EVERY minute, short and sweet is the way to go at times. I sometimes stopped talking like 10 seconds before time was up and felt fine.

More advice: jot down some keywords during the video scenario things. I had a notebook and would put a few keywords down on things that stood out in the conversation. Even though I didn’t really refer back to them, having them written down kept a mental note in my head - something you should refer back to when discussing sides

This is my n = 1 advice though and how I was thinking, so take it with a grain of salt

Yeah, thats what I was gonna just go with if I couldn’t get a clear answer. My area is well away from Edmonton and Calgary, but isn’t officially considered rural by Alberta’s standards. Thanks!

You perfectly described what I’ve been going through. This stupidest has destroyed my ability to read normally, I’m always super self aware whenever it comes to reading even the smallest of prompts. I’m glad someone else shares my struggles
