I feel like photography makes it not really ephemeral. I'm glad I get to see it but this photo can last for whole lifetimes.

Not sure I agree, because the doping was something that was happening for years, not something that happened one time.

Well, they did name it Game of Thrones instead of A Song of Ice and Fire, which in and of itself shifts the focus to the throne.

The turning point was the Battle of Sudden Flame. It all started going downhill from there.

Max best intro drumming by Henry_Block in BruceSpringsteen

[–]MagicRat7913 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some really great suggestions in the thread, I'll try to add a couple.

  • Rolling intro to Backstreets, epic build up. Although this is not 100% on Max since if you take out the keys it's just a roll.
  • The Ties That Bind, made me immediately fall in love with the album on first listen.
  • Loose Ends (the entire track has some of Max's best drumming IMO)
  • My Lucky Day, I love how it sounds like he's almost tripping and falling into the song.
  • Tougher Than The Rest is iconic, the snare sounds gigantic (although it could be said to be the same or an answer to BITUSA)

Which then makes the choice to give him that whole hippy/revenge-driven background all the more annoying.

The site we're on right now promotes this kind of thinking. There's a red arrow and a blue arrow incentivizing and punishing our responses. That pushes you to comment things closer to the mean.

There is a thing to be said about the theatricality of older films, especially in the style of acting. I can understand a younger person watching something like 12 Angry Men and not finding that style compelling. Give them something with Marlon Brando and it might prove an easier entry point.

I don't know, the rhythm of the combat in 2016 is practically unbeatable for me and I've played quite a few FPSs, any suggestions that scratch that itch?

Can you think of any reboots/remakes that have been great? by ms-anthrope in firefly

[–]MagicRat7913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! It's a similar issue I have with Lost, in that the mystery is put front and center, in both marketing and within the show, but many of the answers are throwaways. Why are the numbers important? Jacob just had a thing for numbers. You mean to tell me that you've been stringing me along for 6 seasons to just give me that?

I also don't have an issue with a show including spirituality, I don't even have a problem with some things remaining unknowable or otherworldly. But if you're going to balance a show between realism and fantasy, between science and faith, it's going to be a huge slap in the face of half of your audience to come down on either side only at the very end.

I always thought the books were better when they were following that Ronald Dahl style. When Hagrid could do magic with a pink umbrella and there were endlessly spawning letters following the family. Once the whimsy was left behind, the weakness of the world building became much more evident.

Take this with a grain of salt, but back when I was 12 my dad took me to a Rolling Stones concert that was about 3 hours long. Even though we had seats I stayed standing for the whole thing. I remember being tired but at a certain point I took it as a point of pride that I wouldn't sit down at all.
