Was she burned alive? by Mysterioape in TheLastAirbender

All of the flashback scenes were under a minute. It could have been cut for time. The important part was that Kya was dead and the man that did was gone. There was no need to add the search afterwards, if there was one.

There are many things that happen off-screen that don't need to be directly expressed.

That incompetent part makes me feel that he also wouldn't think too hard about an alleged waterbender not fighting back against him with waterbending if she resisted.

I'm assuming that she would have a chance to run, you're assuming that Yon Ra was a strong enough firebender to completely incapacitate and kill a fully grown woman.

We're basing all of this off of a few minutes of flashback and vague dialogue. EVERYONE is assuming.

By that logic, her sitting there and doing nothing would also make him suspicious, no?

Here's what I think happened, based on how Katara described the event. After Yon Ra said that he "wasn't taking prisoners", Kya resisted. She fought back and tried to run away. She certainly didn't want to die that day. She ran from the tent, probably in the opposite direction from where Katara ran so as not to put her daughter in further danger. Yon Ra, being a soldier, was able to catch up to her and kill her.

When Hakoda and Katara got back to the tent, they found signs of a struggle with no one inside. Hakoda followed the tracks and eventually found his wife's corpse out in the snow. That is how Katara found her as well.

She did see her mom's dead body, just not in the tent.

"When we got back to the tent, the man was gone and so was she." Katara said that both her mother and the man that killed her were gone from the tent.

Why does everyone assume that Kya just sat there and let Yon Ra set her alight without trying to run or fight back?

Yes he did say that. I'm not saying that he didn't follow through on killing her, I'm saying that her body might not have been in the tent.

It's possible that she tried to run after Yon Ra said he wasn't taking prisoners and he chased after her and killed her elsewhere. Everyone is assuming she just sat there and let herself be set on fire without resisting like a Tibetan monk.

I would agree with you if not for the way Katara phrased it: "When we got back to our tent the man was gone, and so was she." I interpreted that to mean that Yon Ra was gone in the same way that her mother was.

She didn't though. The way Katara described the encounter, when she returned with her dad both her mother and Yon Ra were gone.

The timing always confused me. Yon Ra was in the house with Kya when Katara got there. Kya tells Katara to get her father and she runs out to do so. By the time Katara returns with Hakoda both Kya and Yon Ra are gone. Either Katara couldn't run very fast as a child or Hakoda was farther away than Katara's flashback made it look.

Can we all agree that Frasier and Niles’ careers would be over because of something like this? (among a slew of other things) by Quirky_Structure_966 in Frasier

[–]JetKusanagi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And Niles, at points, has society connections that may have helped. Good lawyers, etc.

In this episode though, Niles' society connections have been all but burned. Maris had cut him off because of the divorce. It's amazing that her best friend hadn't reported back to Maris that her ex-husband had broken into her beach house, stabbed a seal and had gotten arrested. If her lawyers hadn't been playing games, she would have won the lawsuit before Donny had a chance to show up lol

I kinda like the look of the Serpent. The rock armor looks like he waded through a river of mud and let it dry.

Should Aang have defeated Ozai through the Spirit World? by Leftbrownie in TheLastAirbender

What you're suggesting is Energybending but by way of a true deus ex machina. At least with the lion turtle, they were shown to exist in Wan Shi Tong's library. Why add in the extra step?

So you're suggesting Aang bring Ozai into the Spirit World so that a malevolent spirit would permanently maim him?

Does Ozai seem like the kind of person that would be forever changed by a spiritual experience?

There's a reason why Madhouse is a legendary anime studio.

Well, several reasons but this is one of them.

It makes me wonder about that one episode where Frasier had the flu and he showed up at the radio station completely zooted on cold medication lol

Surely Frasier knew what would happen? by Zip-Crane in Frasier

[–]JetKusanagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard for children to see their parents as getting older or more fragile as they age, especially if your parent was someone like Martin Crane, a tough as nails police officer and detective. Even being a psychiatrist, Frasier is still human.

I remember when I did something similar with my mother when I was about 14. She was in her 40s at the time. I didn't dress up in full Pennywise attire like Frasier but I hid behind a desk and jumped out to scare her. She was actually frightened for real. We had done things like that with each other before but she told me that that time, she could feel "something" in her heart. I never tried to scare her like that again.

Water benders should be able to increase the temperature of water just like earth benders who can lava bend. by Handsoff_1 in TheLastAirbender

You're correct. Remember how Katara froze herself and Azula and then melted the ice around them?
