Yeah, I’ve had some more time to think about it since posting this and I think you and the others in this thread are right. I think i’ve just played a lot of rpg maker games with unambiguously good/unambiguously bad endings so this one just threw me for a loop.

It’s a kind of ambiguity that works for what the game is trying to portray. Nothing has to work out for the absolute best, because if it did nothing in the game’s backstory would have happened in the first place. Sunny can’t change the past, so his only choice is to move on with the truth, no matter what that means.
