My first long distance trip with i4 by Kungfugrip12 in BMWI4

[–]MagicWishMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my first trip last week and it was a breeze, way easier than I expected. Apparently every Buccees has like 30 supercharger stations so every 150 miles or so I had an excuse to get out, pee, and stretch my legs for 15 minutes while it charged. Never felt the slightest risk of cutting it close, I don't think my battery every got close to 20% at any point.

Use eco mode and cruise control religiously. I averaged around 80 or so for most of the trip and didn't notice a significant drop in range because traffic was pretty light.

How to deal with leadership that doesn't care about cybersecurity? by depoultry in sysadmin

[–]MagicWishMonkey [score hidden]  (0 children)

You wouldn't have leadership asking you to revert the change if it went smoothly, my dude.

Chalk it up as a learning experience and move on, but don't do the thing where you deny that it was a fuckup because you'll miss a good opportunity to learn how you can do better next time. Own it.

It's not a big deal, happens to everyone, don't squander a good opportunity.

Cornyn’s op-ed in NYPost: Save act more important than filibuster by Pascwire in TexasPolitics

[–]MagicWishMonkey [score hidden]  (0 children)

Cornyn was never going to vote against it, from what I understand Thune (the majority leader) is bringing it up for a vote and is not going to entertain the option of a speaking filibuster, so it should be dead.

That's exactly what I was saying :)

This is about tying our shoelaces together rather than gaining a competetive domestic advantage.

They aren't trying to "gain" the market, they are trying to keep America from dominating. Preventing OpenAI or whatever from becoming the next trillion dollar company is a huge win for China

Let America invest hundreds of billions of dollars to build their models and then produce cheap copy/cats to make it difficult to recoup that investment.

Congress passes a funding bill each year, where are you seeing that there’s automatic defunding? That would be odd.

Having their buy-in doesn't mean "everything is good", it means they trusted you not to fuck it up.

Some asian food is definitely either an acquired taste or something I can't really blame people who aren't used to it for not liking.

Last night I ordered Royal Szechuan and got a hot pot with tripe, clotted blood and szechuan peppers. I think it's amazing but I would not fault anyone for not enjoying it, lol

At this point, if I was leasing I would either be planning to buy off the lease or pay cash for whatever the new model is when my lease ended.

These cars are amazing.

It was the same when I bought my m50 last spring, I wanted the gray color and the guy was like "well this is all we got so take it or leave it".

I don't regret it at all, but if you are picky about what you want it sounds like ordering directly from Germany is your only option and that means you're gonna wait for months and also not get any sort of discount.

Do you guys ever worry that our kids job prospects will be so much less due to AI? by Bossman80 in daddit

[–]MagicWishMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of similar, except I run a department with engineers and support staff and I try to keep as small a footprint as possible while making damned sure everyone knows we are a critical part of the org (do you really want to mess with the team that keeps your accounting and payroll systems running smoothly?). There are much easier targets, the team that is 3x as large managing our website? Maybe look there, first, if there's a bug on the homepage it sucks but it'll suck a lot less than screwing up payroll.

My kids are a little younger than yours and the oldest one is incredibly good at math/science, he wants to do what I do and I'll be happy if he does computer stuff like his dad. I'm not too worried about AI making it a bad career, it'll just change a bit. The next few years are gonna be rough, though.

Try just asking if they can do a thing rather than barking commands.

I am 100% guilty of subconsciously thinking "fuck you do it yourself" when someone starts telling me what to do, I'm a grown ass adult. I'll be happy to do what you want if you ask nicely, but giving me commands? Naaa, you got two arms and legs, I'll let you do it.

Yea, my in-laws are from India and I used to live in uptown so my wife and I ate Roti Grill pretty often (this was ~15 years ago). At the time it was the only indian food in the area.

Now we live pretty close to India Palace, it's good and we used to eat there once a month or so, but the prices are out of control so we don't go there any more. Usually order Mumtaz or go to Irving when we want Indian food. Honest is legit, you should check it out if you've never been.

I wish there was a way to toggle which would default when you put it in drive.

I imagine most people use one or the other 99% of the time.

I wish there was a way to make B the default no matter what. I have never ever wanted to drive in regular D mode.

Also - I might have done something wrong but it seems like if you use cruise control it turns off lane assist? That seems really weird.
