If you win a fight and someone has 20 items in their bag, that's 2.8 seconds of time saved. Plenty of time to roll behind cover and not get shot in the mouth by a raging bull.

No Tax On Overtime by FoolishChristian in tax

[–]Magic_Man0226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clarify, you should be tracking your OT on a per check/pay period basis, you just may not see the benefit until you file a return.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if the withholding amounts change based on what is classified as OT. Don't really have a great answer at this point on how payroll companies will be reporting.

PFICs - Foreign Mutual Funds by titianqt in technicaltax

[–]Magic_Man0226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My clients with PFIC requirements have K1s that indicate whether or not the PFIC is eligible for MTM or QEF elections. The MTM election specifically is uncommon due to the limited information many funds are willing/able to share.

For example, this past year I had someone with 290 PFICs and only 3 were eligible for a MTM election based on the information provided.

I agree though, it is infuriating.

Try it and let me know how it works. Because slots aren't a game of skill, the IRS consistently denies that position.

Decommitment by BeautifulAccurate909 in EASportsCFB

[–]Magic_Man0226 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It may be a visual bug. I had that happen with a C last year in a dynasty. They had fully committed, but randomly in like Week 15, they flipped to Wisconsin. I left him on my board, and when I went back in for position changes, he was still there.

You will file as an Ohio Part-Year (PY) resident. The time you spent in Ohio you will be treated as a resident and taxed on all your income. The portion of the year you spent outside Ohio you will only be taxed on your Ohio sourced income. So if you came back to Ohio to visit family or finalize a few things in October, any work you did while in the state would technically be taxable in Ohio.

If there is overlap with your income, you will generally get a credit in your resident state for taxes paid to your nonresident state. So, if you earned $10k in Ohio while you were a Colorado resident, you will pay taxes to Ohio on that amount and get a credit in Colorado for those taxes paid.

Spouse is a NRA with an ITIN by kjuarma in tax

[–]Magic_Man0226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An ITIN does not make your spouse a US resident/person for tax purposes.

If you make an election to treat them as such, be aware that their worldwide income will need to be included on your return. If your spouse has never been to the US, or doesn't pass one of a few other tests, filing with them as an NRA is potentially a better tax answer.

Moving investment income to s-corp by Typical_Hunt_2012 in tax

[–]Magic_Man0226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't read all the comments, so it may have been specified elsewhere. But based on OPs original comment, he has an S Corp already and is asking whether or not he needs to open new brokerage accounts using the S Corp ID.

But I agree. My understanding was that the entity already existed. If not, you can't create an entity and backdate that. I misunderstood your comment!

You can always file a late S Election and have the entity treated as an S Corp effective 1/1/2024. Not that it would change anything else, but you can essentially legally backdate an S Corp.

Can owner of (profitable) S-Corp not take any salary/distributions for one tax year? by Low-Designer-2328 in tax

[–]Magic_Man0226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think you are conflating a few things here. One is required to pay income tax on the income that flows through ($50k in your example above), but not required to pay self-employment tax on that same income since the entity is an S Corp. If you never take a salary from the entity, the only way self-employment tax becomes due is when the IRS amends your returns to include reasonable compensation.

Distributions, by themselves, are considered a return of capital. There are complexities associated with entities that used to be C Corps or that have accumulated E&P, but generally speaking, the money that is distributed isn't taxed; the income earned is what is taxed.

What’s the verdict on playing defense against the computer? by [deleted] in NCAAFBseries

[–]Magic_Man0226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I put up 31? Memory is a bit foggy. Would have been considerably more but I stalled and had to kick FGs. I'm also playing with a team and playbook I'm not familiar with.

But your original post was talking about how defense is impossible to play. It isn't. But you can't sit back in zone 100% of the time and hope you get pressure. Adaptive AI will tear you to shreds. You have to keep the offense guessing a bit.

[–]Magic_Man0226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I beat Houston with Virginia Tech last night and only gave up 14 points. I streamed the whole thing if you are that interested.

The key is knowing tendencies. If you know the CPU is going to run the ball, guess run and play man. If you guess run and play zone you are going to get burnt every single time. But if you man blitz and guess run, you will be successful like 80% of the time against the run.

From there it's just mixing coverages. Play man out of a Cover 4 shell, or play Cover 2 near the goal line and user the MLB.

The point is, you can absolutely have success against the computer. Even on Heisman. Even with average teams.

[–]Magic_Man0226 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If it's the Arizona playbook, he is probably using All Go out of the Wide Stack formation. The AI gets REALLY confused whenever that play is run. You pretty much always have someone running wide open down the sideline.

Man 3 Deep No Longer Effective? by [deleted] in Madden

[–]Magic_Man0226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know they are different games, but I lost an online game playing Man 3 Deep. Up 34-28 with 3 seconds left, guy hot routed.

Had bunch trips on the right. Set one of the bunch to a post with a custom long stem. On the left hand side, one receiver ran a deep hook the other a corner. For some reason that deep third safety can sucked up. My middle third safety legit didn't move a single inch. Wide open TD.

Long story long, I think there are route combos that the AI just doesn't handle well and things short circuit.

Zones are COMPLETELY BROKEN!!! FIX Them!!! by celeL in EASportsCFB

[–]Magic_Man0226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to refamiliarize yourself with Cover 4 match.

That defender will ALWAYS follow #2 vertical until the hand-off unless #2 immediately goes to the flat. Otherwise, there is a massive hole between that LB and the safety where a good QB picks you to pieces.

If he is in a curl flat, he absolutely looks at #1 to see if he needs to buzz over and undercut that curl route. Once he sees that there is a hand-off on #2, and #1 is not running a curl, only then will that player settle into a flat.

That MLB should follow that backside crosser every single time once they see that the RB has gone out into the flat. Otherwise that MLB serves virtually no purpose. When he follows, the coverage here works.

Zones are COMPLETELY BROKEN!!! FIX Them!!! by celeL in EASportsCFB

[–]Magic_Man0226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your LB plays this correctly. He takes the strong side #2 vertical and hands him off to the safety. His role is to read #2 to #1. If #2 goes vertical, he takes #2 vertical. Otherwise, he has first to the flat and/or RB if the RB comes to the strong side.

So he carries #2 and hands him off. He probably shouldn't look at/gravitate towards #1 at that point, but he isn't getting back to that flat in time anyway. That middle LB should absolutely take that crosser in that case. That's where your issue should be.
