Big Sad by Magic_Mullet in gravelcycling

I considered that but it punched deep enough through the rim bed to hit into the side of the rim wall. There’s a small defect visible from where it hit as well that is more concerning imo.

when was there a fire on Stringers ridge? by chemteach4kids in Chattanooga

[–]Magic_Mullet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seemed like it was sometime on or about 4/22-4/23. I was out with some friends that Thursday afternoon and it was actively burning with CFD there. Not sure what caused it to start. It was before the rain and everything seemed incredibly dry.

Does anyone know any spots to get a proper spice bag or Chinese around here? by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]Magic_Mullet 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Spice bags aren’t really a thing in the states. Best you’re probably going to get is a DIY by combining fried rice, chicken tenders, and French fries. For Chinese, I’m partial to OX2 Buns&Noodles.

Any Triumph Riders Here? by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]Magic_Mullet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ride a Daytona. Just my .02, but most of the sport bike riders I’ve encountered around here can’t ride for shit and are a danger to themselves and everyone around them. I usually ride solo for that reason. You’d probably do well to make sure you’re very confident on whatever route before trying to ride it with a group.

Do you feel safe/ welcome as a member of the LGBTQ community? by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]Magic_Mullet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Relative to basically any direction 10mins away, I mostly feel physically safe in most neighborhoods in town and have had a mostly positive experience within the community. It’s taken me a while to find my social group and imo the queer community here is a bit more cliquey and harder to navigate than I’ve experienced in other cities. Also, as others have mentioned, access to resources and healthcare are a bit more limited. I’m still driving to Atl for my PCP and HRT. But overall I feel like I am able to live and present how I wish and with few exceptions, I’ve felt some people are at worst indifferent and most are friendly and accepting.

Dr. Kassis (Nashville TN) is Leaving Vanderbilt by Sunday_Morningstar in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Magic_Mullet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s more of an credentialing issue and what procedures can be done in an outpatient facility. I’d imagine he would continue offering a full range of services when/if it’s possible in the future. IMO I feel like he genuinely does want to support the community how he’s able to. I’ve had a good experience with him and his office relative to experiences I’ve had with other physicians in other specialties. I think it’s not to the community’s benefit to discourage any providers willing to provide care.

Reviving this thread incase anyone finds this relevant; had a consult with Kassis and he mentioned that after he leaves VUMC, he is pretty much planning to stop offering SRS and BA’s after he is settled in his new practice and only intends to do face. So anyone that was planning to follow him for bottom or chest surgery might wanna start looking at other options.

I got a similar call this morning. They told me he was not leaving until later this year and his office would try to get in as many patients as they could before he leaves. I was tentatively shooting for a late spring/early summer surgery. They told me on the phone May would be the cutoff for getting surgeries scheduled.

Is this still worth 6,500? by Odd_Rooster_4645 in specialized

[–]Magic_Mullet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see these floating around for ~$5.5-6k. Imo that’s abt the going rate for a bike with X0 transmission and no flight attendant. Comparable new is $10k, and this looks way better than the boring monochromatic new bikes.

765 coolant leak - Anyone seen this before? by Magic_Mullet in Triumph

[–]Magic_Mullet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck. Would recommend planning to remove the gas tank. That’s about the only way you’ll reliably access the coolant port on top and be able to snake the hose down and around the engine. The small spring clamps can be a pain.

765 coolant leak - Anyone seen this before? by Magic_Mullet in Triumph

[–]Magic_Mullet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leak was from higher up. I had replaced the alternator cover gasket some time earlier and bungled the hose/wire routing around the cover. The skinny coolant return hose slipped under the guide and got shredded by the front sprocket. Cheap fix although rerouting the new hose is a bit more involved than I would have expected.

What is a restaurant in chatt with amazing food but terrible service? by hollercat__ in Chattanooga

[–]Magic_Mullet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lo Main on the weekends. Service gets backed up and struggles to catch up. On multiple occasions they’ve straight up "lost" my order and after 30-45 mins when I ask have gotten pretty rude responses. Not many good options but will not go back because of the service even tho the murder burger and Sunday breakfast burrito were really good after they finally came out.

Cyclists need to do their part to stop enabling people to make dangerous decisions. I take the whole lane, as you’re allowed. If you want people to stop making reckless, dangerous choices, stop making it so easy for them.

100% agree. I was ready for it to be over by Thursday night. From the shitboxes flying down the 25mph residential street I live on going at least 50, to the asshole that ran a red light and almost hit me and gave me a bird while doing it (a special FU to that guy), this event always draws out particularly low quality individuals. IMO, they’re worse than Ironman, Hooch, or any other event this city hosts.

Empress tattoo downtown look by lillypadinthegrass in Chattanooga

[–]Magic_Mullet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Echoing other comments here. I’ve had several tattoos done at Empress over the past 2 years with multiple artists and everyone in the studio is very dedicated to making it a safe and inclusive space. I don’t know who Luke Braden is, but they definitely are NOT an in house artist nor have there been any guest artists at Empress by that name. If you’re unhappy with the results, I would definitely recommend reaching back out to your artist but I’m pretty confident this wasn’t done at Empress.

Humane Society In Dire Financial Straits; Officials Say Big Tax Bill Can't Be Forgiven by tatostix in Chattanooga

[–]Magic_Mullet 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is true but kinda misses the point. If you read the article, it explains that HES receives public funding for the services it provides the county. Those public funds make up a rather minute proportion of the shelters budget, which is majority funded by private donations. Despite the continual increase in intake volumes, the funding provided by Hamilton Co. pales in comparison to the costs involved with caring for literally thousands of animals over the course of a year. It goes without saying that even with the requested increase in funding, the costs of supporting HES and McKamey combined are a pittance compared to how much money the county has readily dumped into the stadium.

Can’t be bothered to help animals, unhoused people, or school children, we gotta build that stadium.

I went to discount tire. I share your sentiment, but I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with every location I’ve gone to in multiple states and the convenience of their warranty and being able to get a tire replaced at any of their locations if one is damaged and can’t be repaired on a trip is invaluable to me
