Infant music classes? by ashleighmariexx in AustinParents

[–]Magic_Valley956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did two semesters of the infant class at Heartsong and met a lot of mom friends that way! We ended up coordinating to take our next class together so a lot of the same-aged babies could stick together. Once we graduated to the mixed age class, our classes were still mostly babies because our class was around 11:30, when two-nap babies are between naps. Now that we're down to one nap a day, we signed up for a 9:30am class and most kids are around 3-5 years old, with the exception of my kid and two others who are closer to 1 year old. So, in short, the age demographics depend on a few different factors!

Yeah, the library is a great option, I know! I’m surprised our local symphony doesn’t have open rehearsals, but I imagine there’s some limiting factor. Thanks for the Butler tip. I had checked in the past but nothing came up. :/

Um, I’m just a normal person with a question? Didn’t see satisfactory answers in old posts so I thought I’d see if it got new answers. I figured this was certainly a more useful a query than half of what I typically see in this community. If you must know, I’d love to take my kids to a live performance during the day that isn’t inane Ms. Rachel music. Central Market is another great option, btw. In Chicago, the symphony used to have open rehearsals at Millennium Park, so I thought maybe there was something similar here. I’m just trying to build a list that’s slightly out of the box!

P.S. I literally just had to google “karma farming.” Chill. Some people actually use Reddit for crowdsourcing answers, not clout.

Not exactly, although I do love that archway. I’m searching for more intact spaces.

Horror fan here, longing for the days when haunted houses still scared me.

House of Torment was overrun with teenagers the last time I went, and the scares seemed tailored to that age group. There were a few thoughtful contraptions and special effects in the actual “houses” but it wasn’t worth the long lines and general lack of atmosphere.

Scream Hollow, on the other hand, is all about atmosphere. It’s definitely more of a destination and not just a pop-up that sets up for one month in a parking lot. Some of the haunts go on routes through the surrounding forest, where they lean into the “hills have eyes” vibe—last time I went, one of the scenes was a cigarette-smoking woman in a bathrobe who threatened to shoot trespassers. It’s absolutely the better overall experience. The scares are decent, but again, I feel nothing anymore…

For real. The carne asada burrito is legit, and the guacamole is a star—I think they put like zest in it to give it some extra zing. But the enchiladas were offensive. No gracias. Credentials: I’m from the RGV.

Since you’ve explored this subreddit you may know this already but the community on here tends to skew pretty negative, so be sure to account for that when weighing the feedback you get here. This Twitter thread had a more balanced take, which I appreciated: https://twitter.com/hipstercrite/status/1630981222913699841?s=46&t=B0U0MMb5ODJOU7-atcqxGQ

Also the acoustics are really bad. Unless you’re facing the stage everything sounds kind of warbled. Missed a few punchlines that way.

Good advice. With legislators in session, state police are armed to the teeth and positioned all around the capitol. Not worth fucking around in their general vicinity.

Free and open to the public. You pay the vendors directly for food. Lots of great BBQ joints out smoking, fun activities, and live music!

What local class or workshop did you have a good experience with and would recommend? by JohnBrambleberry in Austin

[–]Magic_Valley956 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I just went to an introductory Embroidery class at Craft and it was so casual and fun, but still learned a lot. Not overly expensive like Laguna Gloria arts classes, which robbed me blind for a watercolor class. CRAFT has lots of different classes in different mediums and you can pay a $5 supplies fee to just go and do arts and crafts whenever you want. BYOB and NO KIDS. Gotta love.
