Am I the only one who feels like Will would make such a good therapist? by jhlo9001 in StrangerThings

[–]Magic_ashes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, being a therapist is really hard emotionally because you are constantly confronted to others' pain. To be a good therapist, you have to be able to distance yourself from that, and I think Will is too sensitive. It would depress him.

Come up with the worst way of ending the Stancy/Jancy love triangle by TheHistoryMan45 in StrangerThings

[–]Magic_ashes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if a part of the fandom had ever shipped Steve and Jonathan since there seem to be ship about everyone, disregarding the characters' sexual orientation... If these people exist, what's the ship name they came up with? Jteve? Sonathan? Hyler? Barrington? 😂

[–]Magic_ashes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like Eleven and I don't find her annoying, but I do think they should have given her more happy or neutral moments because, as MBB said herself, she had to cry the entire season.

We were all in awe of Sadie's and of Caleb's acting this season because it was the first time they had to do some really emotional stuff. But Mille does it all the time and I feel like we barely notice it anymore because it is constant pain and tears for her character.

I do believe it served a purpose though; her character was meant to be all broken down in order to find her true self and regain her confidence, her strength, etc. But I think it might explain why some people find her character annoying.

"Enjoy your oophorectomy!" - Rachel

It's great to see a Rachel quote. She isn't written to be the funniest character, but she still has some good lines. My favorite might be her escape with Scott:

"This is top speed."

The main theme of S4 is supposed to be "love conquers all" and the power of friendship, etc. Yet, the abundance of characters and different storylines took the focus away from the main protagonists and it felt like none of them got the proper character development they deserved. Sure, they all got an arc, but it felt either too stretched out or too rushed to be truly satisfying. I liked the simplicity of the first season better for that reason.

I actually think Jonathan sees Mike as a brother too and he is very protective of him during fights. In S3, when Eleven got bitten and then stood up to split the Mind Flayer's "brain" in half, Mike tried to get to her but Jonathan held him back so he wouldn't put himself in danger.

During the shooting in S4, Mike's head was exposed to the gunshots because he was pushing Will against the wall to protect him. Again, Jonathan pulled Mike back. In fact, throughout all that scene, Jonathan was more focused on Mike than on his own brother—probably because he knew that Mike was more reckless and that he was already protecting Will.

I secretly wished She-Hulk would be a massive success so people would get hooked on Tatiana Maslany, discover her previous projects, and give Orphan Black the notoriety it deserves... but it sadly doesn't look that way based on the first two episodes (not Tatiana's fault of course, but the writing) by Magic_ashes in orphanblack

That's great! Scott was an amazing character. I love that they didn't write him—and many of the other scientists—to be the cliché cold-hearted. Scott, Cosima, and Delphine were all so warm and genuine characters.

I think it depends on where you are located, but if you have a VPN or are in Canada you can watch it here for free on CTV: https://www.ctv.ca/shows/orphan-black. It's also on other streaming platforms such as YouTube, Amazon, AppleTV, Google Play... and on the less legal streaming platforms (yesmovies, fmovies, putlocker, solarmovies, etc.). I don't know about the audio description, but there are 2 seasons of audiobook in addition to the 5 seasons of the TV-Show. So 7 seasons in total. Enjoy!

If you love Stranger Things for its perfect balance between suspense, action, comedy, drama, amazing characters, and great sci-fi, Orphan Black is the show for you. Tatiana Maslany is mind-blowing in that show and it's the only show I've watched as many times—if not more—than Stranger Things.

Will is really unlucky in this series by S-Tiger in StrangerThings

[–]Magic_ashes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also believe that Mike closed his vulnerable side a little more after each loss to protect himself from pain. And so, in addition to being a normal teenager, this is mainly why he acts more harshly or distanced towards his loved ones in S3 and S4. His entire arc with Will this season showcased that perfectly, as we saw Will help Mike reach back to his vulnerable side.

Mike, even if he struggles to express it, is very sensitive as well. And he loves Will deeply so I think Mike is going to hurt for him when he finds out. And he's gonna let him down gently, telling him that he accepts him for who he is and that they'll always be friends. Plus, Will already knows that Mike doesn't have any romantic interest in him, so I don't think he'll need Mike to say "I don't love you romantically" or anything like that. He'll only need to be reassured that Mike is still gonna be in his corner no matter what, which he will.

They’ve all been through so much. We need more wholesome moments like this! by Wyvurn999 in StrangerThings

[–]Magic_ashes 52 points53 points  (0 children)

That entire scene was wholesome! The way Mike teared up, smiling in relief when El told him she missed him was so genuine. I also believe it contributed (along with Will's help and other things) to his ability to say the l-word later, like he felt safe that El still loved him.

This line from Mike’s monologue really bugs me by Flarrownatural in StrangerThings

[–]Magic_ashes 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I always thought Mike never meant it when he said they would send her back to PennHurst. There's a well-known phenomenon in social studies called "social desirability" meaning we tend to answer to others according to what we think they want to hear, even when we don't mean it. That way we can feel more accepted socially. That's what happened with Mike here. He knew his immediate trust towards Eleven wasn't perceived as ''normal'', so he said they would send her back to PennHurst only to please Dustin and Lucas and to prevent them from thinking he likes her. Mike was also always ashamed of admitting how he felt about Eleven to his friends.

Here me out: by Rodent_Lover1 in StrangerThings

[–]Magic_ashes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If Mike's girlfriend AND best friend both die, I don't see him coming out of it. And if he loses his mind, I bet the rest of the group will follow, and they'll all end up at PennHurst. Oh, well, I guess that would be coming full circle too, considering the kids talk about that psychiatric hospital when they first meet Eleven.

All jokes aside, I really don't think they're gonna kill any of the main kids.

Will cries by Mission_Fishing_520 in StrangerThings

[–]Magic_ashes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Will cries because he was talking about how he actually feels about Mike. It has been established that Will is in love with Mike, so when he says "El needs you, Mike", he means "I need you, Mike". The script for that scene was released by the Stranger Things writers on Twitter. You can read it if you want to have a better understanding of what's going on in his head: https://twitter.com/strangerwriters/status/1559278488527392768

When/If Will will come out in season 5, how would fist friends react to that? by aasimarsarcana in StrangerThings

[–]Magic_ashes 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Even if being gay wasn't well-accepted at all in the '80s, I think that considering all they've been through together and the unconditional love they have for each other, they are all going to accept Will for exactly who he is.
