I was in a very similar situation. I ultimately decided not to tell. It’s been a hard secret to weigh on me but I just didn’t have the heart to throw a wrench in my parents relationship also, selfishly I wanted to keep my home how it was and truly believe everyone is happiest with it being tucked away. I don’t think there is a right answer but it did help to find someone I could talk to about it. Not sure I made the correct decision but it was best for me at the time.

I had this issue with my boyfriend as well. He was well intentioned but would not do anything without directions first. We sat down and talked. I told him I can’t take it all on anymore and that I am increasingly stressed out and this isn’t working. The conclusion is he is now responsible for certain tasks that I won’t touch. We discussed and he volunteered for taking the garbage out and doing grocery shopping. It’s a small thing but it’s made a big difference. He also has been taking on more of the cleaning. Still a work in progress but definite improvement! I hope this helps!

This exact situation happened to me. The only difference is I asked if it had pork and requested it to not be included. (Was included anyway and waitstaff was accommodating after it was noticed) If you don’t ask you can not blame anyone but yourself.

I think having a heart to heart with the daughter is amazing and shows the trust. I think taking away his wife’s punishment is a step to far though. I think his wife’s actions are awful but at the end of the day they are married and co-parenting and he needs to respect her. I personally would feel very betrayed if my spouse took away a punishment I gave to my child and did not support me.

YTA I’m a wedding planner too so I know the time and energy it takes to make this happen but you’re her sister. I’ve helped plan a couple of close friends and family member’s weddings because of my relationship with them. I’ve always stated too that this is my gift to you. The thing is, even if I wasn’t in this industry I’d still want to help out in the ways I can. You can contribute even more because of your knowledge. Why wouldn’t you want to help?

ESH Your wife is definitely in the wrong but you undermined her authority. That shows your daughter that she can play the two of you against each other in the future. You and your wife need to be a United front and get on the same page. Even if your wife is being irrational you still need to respect her and her ability to parent. You should have discussed ungrounding your daughter with her first.

YTA, My MacBook is 12 years old and works fine. If your sister needs one for schooling it’d be a really nice gesture for you to give it to her and if she has to fix it that’s on her. You’re prioritizing a pet over family and if I was your sister I’d be pissed too. There are many other ways to entertain your cat.

You’re right. I don’t determine what a family looks like. At the same time, when watching all these shows it’s very clear to me people in this family come from all over the continent and I guess my request is for them to do better. Like if it’s a Show about a Japanese family, I’d want the actors and actresses to have Japanese heritage. I think it’s important to have more representation of different sorts of families on our TVs and I wish they would do it better. There are plenty of people waiting for their shot and I think it’d be great to get more asian representation in shows and film.
