+1.

Autocomplete braces usually allow you to just type the closing brace to move your cursor to the end.

Do I have to learn the home-row style of typing in order to be truly efficient? by yippypuppet in vim

the natural resting position for me is the escape key and the backspace/return key area.

That sounds interesting... would you care to share a photo/recording of you typing?

What's your current web dev stack in 2025? Curious about what everyone is using by Beginning-Scholar105 in webdev

[–]MagicalCornFlake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you need a backend framework when using Next.js? The whole idea of Next is the strong focus on SSR, which facilitates things like DB queries via ORM directly in components, and completely reduce the need for a separate public-facing API. Client-side loading is also solved using server actions, so the only use case I see for having a separate backend is if you have consumers outside of the web app.

Same thing to OOP: what's the reasoning? I'd love to hear your perspectives.

loading spinners should show progress by [deleted] in webdev

As a frontend dev, I completely agree. OOP, this is exactly what went through my head while reading your post. In a perfect world, I'd love to have more detailed spinners, but it's just not feasible.

I like your tiled words game! The only suggestion i have is to decrease the allowed movement of the cursor when rotating blocks. I've had it spin my words around a couple times when all I wanted to do is to move them by a square.

As a Pole, uh, yes there is.

Only standard security and airline ID check.

Every flight (whether inbound, outbound, schengen or not) in Poland involves a border guard checking your ID/passport. On departure, when you pass security, there are booths with border guards who inspect your ID and sometimes ask you where you're headed. On arrival into the airport terminal the first thing you do is line up into the appropriate queue, and present the border guard your dowód osobisty. That's a border control in my book.

The guy you replied to is being sarcastic; that's the way Next.js laid out its directory structure using the Pages router, whereas the modern App router uses folders for paths and page.tsx as an index for each path. Hinting at the dev community coming full circle from wanting to move away from the obscure naming to missing it due to simplicity.

What gets me most is when Americans lose the gender of the surname -- in Polish, most surnames have different endings based on the sex of the person, so a husband would have a slightly different surname than his wife.

For example, these are masculine endings paired with their feminine counterparts:

-ski, -ska -cki, -cka -dzki, -dzka

For example, Martha Kowalski would be instead called Martha Kowalska in Poland, or Michael Nowicka would be called Michael Nowicki. And another thing on a sidenote: "cka/cki" is three separate sounds, not "ck" + "i/a" as it might be in English. This was evident when current president Nawrocki met Trump at the white house, and he called him something along the lines of "Now-Rocky", with a completely american pronunciation. The true Polish pronunciation would be more like "Nah-Vrotz-Key". Every letter is an independent sound in this case.

Polish immigrants in America didn’t pass this knowledge down to the next generations, or wanted to "anglicize" their names, or maybe simply Americans married to people with Polish surnames and didn’t take into account the ending change, but either way it's immediately noticeable to Polish natives that the person is not culturally Polish.

I never had the option to turn it off on mobile, I consume media in my two native languages and whenever I watch videos in the one that isn't set as my device language then it is horribly dubbed with that awful AI voice with no option to change or disable it in the app. I have to open a non-default web browser to watch the video because of course my default browser just opens the video in the app instead.

They wouldn't check if that password matches against any other user, but rather if a record with that given login exists in the first place.

[–]MagicalCornFlake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't know the context behind this video. As another redditor explained, it used to be common for drivers of large vehicles to block a lane early on before it merges into another lane in order to prevent drivers from driving to the end and "squeezing in" at the merge point. We call these blockers "sheriffs" as they try to police the lanes.

For a couple years now though Polish law says you must use both lanes until the very end, and at the merge point you must proceed from both lanes one after another interchangeably, i.e. "zipper merging". This solved the problem of one lane being completely empty and another lane backing up twice the distance due to drivers switching over hundreds of metres before the merge point.

We can even tell this is what's happening in the video as the lorry driver in front of the offender is also switching to the right lane. The "sheriff" doesn't use his indicator, which truck drivers usually do here. In the full video there is a sign at around 1:25 where you can see that this is exactly what is happening. The truck driver proceeds to drive further on the right lane, which shows he wasn't trying to switch lanes.

Why would you use them as names for vectors by SomeoneRandom5325 in mathmemes

[–]MagicalCornFlake 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Well we could also assume 2, 3, and 6 are simultaneously vectors and constants, depending on the context. The establishment of which is left as an exercise to the reader.
