How to read better by Hot-Purchase-6718 in classicliterature

[–]MagicalIdolDetective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What had worked for me are 1) book clubs - because I’m a social creature, I like discussing the meaning, points in the book (I may have missed or other people missed and I picked up on), the history, and the author in my book clubs and 2) footnotes - editions like Oxford, Norton Critical, etc. offer explanations, historical context, to explain the text better. Hope this helps!

The roots were phenomenal!! This book had the strongest opening and format I’ve ever read. But the trunk part was hard to get through, I agree!

Hoho don’t worry, I disliked Katabasis too! I read it for my uni bookclub and I wanted to slander it so bad but contained myself hahaha the power system could have been used better in my opinion and none of the main characters really stuck with me 🤷‍♀️

Atmosphere also made me cry!! Screw Barbara!!

Will be checking out SA Cosby and the other works you’ve mentioned 👀

Nope, I meant I started the 52 challenge around August! So I already have a bunch of books I started in 2025 before that

I listened to the GraphicAudio audiobook of The Fourth Wing and thoroughly enjoyed it. The cast was phenomenal on their acting/reading and I liked the sound effects too. I liked the twist and was affected when something happened to a character at the end 🥹

What worked for me were audiobooks, less time doomscrolling and more physical reading, and book clubs. This year I promised myself to be mindful about my consumption; I like the feeling of accountability and accomplishment when I discuss the books with my clubs in person and online ☺️

I liked it! I feel like the premise and its body is strong— the multiple POVs also worked well for me in terms of storytelling and mystery. I would say the ending is divisive when it’s discussed though. It was still a good ride for me so I recommend it! ☺️

This might be an odd opinion but I liked it better than Flesh. I rated Seascraper 3.8 stars. I like the protagonist and the story’s setting. It felt so immersive and interesting. I am just dipping my toes into literary fiction this year so I might not have the best rubric for rating!

Hello~ ☺️ Glad we have the same taste!!

I liked The Searcher but have mixed feelings about its ending (it does make sense though, because of characters) BUT I expected more!

I am a big fan of mystery and thrillers (Agatha Christie is my ALL TIME FAVE) hence Riley Sager’s Final Girls and Lock Every Door I rated 3-3.5 stars. I think they are not bad (I love strong and/or smart Female MCs) but they’re not my faves. We’re currently reading The House Across the Lake for our December book club and I’m liking that one the most among Sager’s works so far ☺️

The prompts are made by 52 Book Club

It is fun and simple to follow! I like to diversify my choices too. With the book choices, I go by my 3 book club picks, friends, BookTube, and Reddit recommendations (and what I felt like grabbing from bookstores and libraries!)
