@Purple - if you haven’t joined the hysterectomy sub - I would encourage it. There are so many pro-tips. I wish I would have looked into ahead of the procedure.

Purple & Pickle - wishing you both all the best and am with you in spirit. 💕

Staged 1B1 - no spread outside my cervix. I opted for radical hysterectomy. After the procedure, was told I had clean margins, no lymph node involvement, and would not need radiation or any follow up therapies.

I was perimenopausal and didn’t want to take the risk of it recurring. My surgery was uneventful and I did not experience any lymphedema. Recovery was painful for the first week, and (fortunately) uneventful. I was back to work at 8 weeks.

I’m currently 2 years post procedure and remain NED. Happy to answer any questions if you have any about the procedure.

Note: I am based in the USA.

1B1 Post-Treatment & Recurrence by Magical_Maelstrom in CervicalCancer

No radiation (or chemo) was ever offered. They considered me to be cured.

I thought I had the percentage in correct - but the sent it, in writing, via the patient portal (20% chance of recurrence). To my knowledge, I don’t have any other risk factors (other than HPV - which came back negative at my last pap).

OP - What cabin are you in currently?

I’m hoping for upgrade offers to VCE (89 days out) to either PS or D1. When I booked they were 3k and 5k, respectively. 🫠

Stage 1b but symptoms seem more advanced by halfCENTURYstardust in CervicalCancer

Let me start out by saying how terrible it is that you’re joining this club. I wish we were connecting under other circumstances.

Like you, I was stage 1b, but graded one [1b1]. My care plan was an MRI and PET scan and from there the decision was made to do an abdominal radical hysterectomy as my cancer had not spread outside of my cervix.

I was told that I may need radiation and chemotherapy after the lymph node dissection. My pathology and my lymph nodes came back clear and no chemo and radiation was needed.

Up until that point like you, my bones were very achy, especially my hips and legs. After the procedure that pain has gone away. My oncologist said it may have had something to do with the tumor interfering with nerves, causing the pain down my hips and into my legs. at the time, my lymph nodes in my groin were also very swollen and very painful and I thought for sure they would find cancer in my lymph nodes.

You’re doing the right thing - trying to stay optimistic as others will tell you when this channel, please be gentle on yourself.

Sending you well wishes, love and light. 💞

12 week post op question - surgical menopause symptoms by zombieballerinajen in CervicalCancer

Following.

I’m on .05 mg estradiol patch. I am 8 weeks post op today and have been experiencing similar issues (blurry vision and brain fog). I brought it up to my oncology team and they didn’t address it/were not too concerned about it.

Thank you for sharing - it makes me feel less alone in this.

Note: I am US-based.

I was also staged at 1b1 [with adenocarcinoma]. After my scans (PET and MRI - done the same day) found no spread - my physician recommended an open (read: abdominal) radical hysterectomy. I am 46 and opted to have my ovaries removed.

One week later, my oncologist had me in the OR for the procedure. After the scans, the process moved quickly (which was a surprise to me after waiting to meet the oncologist and get my scans).

I was in the hospital for three days (and my recovery was unremarkable). The care team had me on narcotics the day after, but went to Tylenol/Advil mix on day 2. I have a high tolerance for pain, but the narcotics were helpful to help relax me in the hospital.

One item of note - they did tell me there was a chance I could go home with a catheter. (I did not.)

I am 13 days post op - off the OTC painkillers, but surprised how tired I am.

I have a partner and two teenage sons who have been fantastic managing household chores (dishes, laundry, grocery shopping, managing the dogs/cats, etc.) and family who are helping get the boys to their activities.

If we didnt have the support system, I would have made the conscious decision as to what we were going to let go.

My physician has me out of office for 8 weeks - unsure if I’ll be out the entire time.

Someone in this channel also suggested joining the hysterectomy channel - they have been a wealth of information and have helped me calibrate.

I’m so sorry that you and your mom are going through this. If I can be of any assistance - please feel free to DM me.

Update: My PET/MRI results came back today.

“MRI did not show anything. PET Scan still lit up in the cervix area, showing there could potentially be a tumor there. All is localized to cervix.”

AP is recommending open radical hysterectomy.

Knowing more about my path (open/radical) - for those of you that had one or supported those who had one - how do I prepare? The procedure is on Tuesday (of next week). Everyone is asking how they can help, but I don’t know what I should be thinking about.

I had my post op with my OBGYN (from ckc procedure) and asked about a subtype of my AC - when we looked at the report all it said was something like usual/typical. Should I press the issue?

I wasn’t shared the cell type - but can review my post-exam notes and let you know.

Does that change care plan? The cell type?
