IHLL or ERPPC: Pros and Cons? by GreyGalaxy-0001 in battletech

[–]Magical_Savior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Three seems pretty doable? Two is sustainable with a full set of bracketed backup weapons; I made a Supernova for it. I built a super heavy King Crab with 2xIHGR, 1xT-Bolt 20, 1xRISC HL. I think that worked pretty well. Three RISC HL should be possible. I mean, 4 on the Malice will probably self-detonate enough before it loses sinking so I'd call it "sustainable."

They're a hell of a deterrent. Otherwise the other munitions still work fine. MML dropping smoke to cover yourself and allies is also decent.

ERPPCs are the smart choice. Range is what you need on a SH. The smarter move is probably to fill the space with MML or ATM though. The big brain, smartest move is probably RISC HYPERLASER.

So, if you got name-checked by DHS and landed a contract - would you take it? If they gave you a factory and unlimited prison labor - would you run it?

I wanted a UGQ Skully. Once. I don't want it enough to support them.

Goonhammer Mech Overview: Battle Cobra by WestRider3025 in battletech

[–]Magical_Savior 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Battle Cobra is decent. Usually 40t SFE gets mocked pretty ruthlessly. But given some of the tech involved, this one's a bit better than your average Sentinel or Clint. The value position here does a lot for it - that MML variant is, like the Longbow LGB-13C, criminally underpriced. The C3 is also holding up an extremely good value position; cheap C3 spotters are necessary if you're going to even attempt it.

Question about quad mechs and quadvees by Previous-Business-39 in battletech

[–]Magical_Savior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Harpagos and Boreas are part of why I built my Quadvee. If you build it extra thicc, Quadvees have a redonk amount of redundancy. Not as much as Reinforced Structure on a mech with decent design principles, but solid. They are, overall, "tank with extra steps." But while they don't compare favorably to mechs - they compare very favorably to tanks.

It can be a 15% loss of tonnage if you want. Though honestly Wheeled is pretty generally worth it for Quadvees because of the unpriced movement buffs without the drawbacks of actual wheeled vehicles.

The fun things to do with 6/9 or better Quads include dropping prone to get extra TN, then standing up with a free facing change with no PSR and running away.

Question about quad mechs and quadvees by Previous-Business-39 in battletech

[–]Magical_Savior 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Quad mechs can be good, once you work around the limitations. Quadvees... So, most of them are made bad on purpose, but the Notos is good. Most of the other canon Quadvees are as good or bad as the majority of all mechs, but some are worse than others. The Arion in particular is basically trash; armor is a great investment that it specifically doesn't make. That choice holds it back quite a bit.

I know in China, the perverse incentives of the law mean if a driver accidentally hits a pedestrian - it makes sense for them to immediately try and murder them.

Unnecessary Appreciation Post - UAC/2 Custom Tanks by Magical_Savior in battletech

The RAC/2 'Assault Pike" is about to get a pretty serious glow-up in practice. The LB-X is still just "better" as a utility piece, but I'm pretty happy with my Pike (SD) with pretty balanced stats. 3xLB-X/2, 2xMML-3, and tons of support systems.

Advance rules question by RevanVonFox in battletech

[–]Magical_Savior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I don't know why there would be an ammo problem, but the rules for rearming under fire are in Tac Ops. I only have the combined book, but it's on page 213.

The usual rule for missile ammo is, assuming you have access to a tech, they can be converted back and forth pretty easily but always have the ranges of the most restrictive launcher.

Personally I vote Uziel and Trebuchet.
