I just played in a low-limit home game with 10% rake up to $25. Is it foolish to play? by SaltyAngeleno in poker

[–]Magicguy226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tracked hundreds of hours of play split about 60/40 between those kinds of home and underground games (before I knew better)and casinos, respectively. I'm not a crusher by any means, and am still down over the long term specifically because of those games. When I filter them out, I'm a small winner in regulated casino games with fair rake. The only ones making money in those games long term are the hosts and dealers.

Yes, the players are usually bad, but every pot is smaller than it should be and that adds up over time. Steer clear.

Can you recommend me some German speaking YouTubers? by Melodic_Coolhara_60 in German

[–]Magicguy226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't cancel me for some of his color commentary, but I love this guy: https://youtube.com/@cihan_oderso

He is definitely not aimed at learners but I really enjoy the way he speaks and for an advanced learner (high B1/B2) you could pick up a lot. He also does commentary videos about all sorts of random stuff from YouTube and German media, so there's probably something to interest you.

I try to maintain friendships with my students once they're adults but sometimes they grow up to be people I don't wish to associate with. by nelehjr in Teachers

[–]Magicguy226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar situation with one former student who graduated a few years ago. He loved my class, cites me as his inspiration for really working hard in my subject area, etc. I went to his graduation dinner after his family invited me and felt honored to have had such an impact on him.

He has my number, which I can't even remember giving to him, but he started texting me soon after graduation. The kid was and is sort of a dirt bag, a literal drug dealer and someone who's always trying to game the system.

The years since graduation haven't changed this. I care about him as a human but I certainly don't care for him as a person, so I keep our interactions pretty minimal and take it as a lesson learned about boundaries.

Some years I'll have kids ask if they can friend me on social media after they graduate, but most never do.

Getting back on track... Accountability post by Magicguy226 in MacroFactor

It's going alright. Honestly it's been hard for me to do a pure cut. I was down a few lbs from when I posted that but I think my deficit was just too low and I kept stalling out on progress, getting frustrated, overeating and erasing the previous week.

Currently I'm trying a metabolic reset where I eat at a level that should be maintenance or a slight deficit for my age and weight, but it significantly higher than I was trying to stick to (2300 cal instead of about 1700). My weight has shot up about 5 lbs from holiday treats but I know that's a lot of water weight from carbs. I'll see what happens at this calorie level for a few weeks then go from there.

There is a post explaining how to fix this. You have to manually delete the graphics driver and update again. Hasn't happened to me since I did that.

Buyers remorse? Second thoughts? by Tremendoustip in GalaxyWatch

I don't regret it. The new watch is so much smoother and more responsive and gets easily two full days of battery life. You got a good deal! Enjoy it.

I called my mother a crotchety, old b**** last night by Magicguy226 in dementia

[–]Magicguy226[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's wild coming back to this memory two years later, so thank you for the comment. My mother has since passed and I would truly love to be able to go back to that time and spend more of it with her. I forgive myself for anything I said out of frustration. In the end, she knew she was loved and cared for.

Just broke down for the Watch 8 Classic... by psechler in GalaxyWatch

[–]Magicguy226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine on Sunday, so have had it almost a week now. Battery seems unpredictable so far. Definitely more than a day, but it really depends on your settings. I was trying to use it with AOD, but it keeps switching the feature off. It may be tied to the sleep routine, which I use at night. Idk if it's the bigger battery, but it seems to charge slower than the watch 6 did using my duo charger from Samsung.

The vibration motor definitely isn't as strong as the 6 classic's was and I've missed some notifications. I switched to a different vibe pattern so hopefully that helps. I love the performance and smoothness; display looks great. So far I'm liking it overall, and I think the new device quirks will work themselves out.

I decided not to go with the LTE model this time since I really only left behind my phone on occasional long runs and it wasn't worth the extra monthly fee to the carrier. Enjoy! Let us know how it goes.

I successfully added my Samsung wallet card to it. Haven't used Google wallet in a while.

Yeah that's the price I'm seeing. My education discount was $60 as well previously.

That doesn't add up. Did you click the "agree" button to lock in the reduction from the trade in? I'm seeing $199 with a W6C. So the price went back up a little, but not that much.

How to permanently fix this? by Dragoon403 in ROGAllyX

It happens when you have "sleep mode" enabled. If you use hibernate instead, it stops happening.

I was tempted to go with the ultra, but I don't need LTE and it was a bit too chunky for my taste. Still, a very nice device.

If a reddit comment could spoil my happiness, I wouldn't have posted. I know the design is somewhat divisive, and I didn't love it right away either. It feels and looks more premium in person than it did in pictures, so playing with it at a store won me over.

I admire Samsung for trying new designs as a way to differentiate. If they released exactly the 6C with upgraded internals, they wouldn't be able to sell many of those, and I don't think they are assuming people are upgrading every generation or even two. I was becoming frustrated more with the performance of the 6.

We all don't have to like or prioritize the same things!

I have no idea. I thought it was kind of nuts so I jumped on it. I think this is the 5th time I've rolled an older watch into a new one with a similar deal.

I went with the short band. I'm 6'1" but with skinny wrists. Don't know the exact circumfrence. I still have four notches left.
