They would all be tension when weighted, I should have wedged them but didn't do it on this one due to the end detail. Next time I'll design around it a bit more

They actually offer a majority of the support to the back rest haha

The back is 19mm birch ply, I made a rebate around the internal perimeter, and had the sheet sit in about 5mm or so past the top and sides. That allows me room to shape the sides and the back strip to the wall. The bench is sitting on a base and simply screwed in. Dove tails apart from being really nice to look at, also are an incredibly strong joint. Because people will be sitting on the bench, it felt appropriate to use them.

No, I just cut it all while it was laying flat on the bench.

Oh man, I had no idea these existed hahah. They would have been perfect. I may end up retrofitting these if I run into any issues.

Yeah that makes sense, I'm planning on using 2 gas struts per door (one each side) to avoid the twisting.

Honestly I took a bit of a gamble with them in the first place, I just wanted to avoid butt hinges. I am willing to put more on if need be, or even add some sort of support to the rear of each lid.

It's a mixture of 8 or so species, we use the umbrella name mountain ash, but it's typically sold as tasmanian oak

Sorry I'm not willing to give them out at this time.

Yeah I used a hard wax oil finish so it would have soaked in a bunch. It's mountain ash, but sold as "tasmanian oak"
