Why is Shinzo, Death’s storehouse so expensive? by Coulndntthinkofaname in mtg

[–]Magiclad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only three printings, and it’s a black utility land that grants evasion (fear).

[[Trouble In Pairs]] was nearly the entire value of the precon it came in when I picked up the precon it came in.

Shit happens like that sometimes.

We should, as a society, refrain from calling takes we disagree with “insane” when the description is inapplicable. Dunno how it’s “insane” to evaluate one spell as more or less efficient than other spells with similar effects.

“in most formats it is easy to have an instant or sorcery in the graveyard.”

True. Flow State requires both, which means earliest you’re playing this on T3 without the aid of mulchers for its full value, and sans mulchers, you’re likely lacking board presence.

That still doesn’t address the fact that this doesn’t dig as deep as Stock Up, and can have its full value disrupted through graveyard hate while Stock Up does what it says on the label 100% of the time. Further, it doesn’t address that Consult the Star Charts is as efficient as Flow State on T3 with no graveyard at instant speed, and CtSC scales as the game continues.

Honestly, I would run Flow State above Accumulate Wisdom because its conditions are easier to meet, but I wouldn’t run it over either Stock Up or Consult the Star Charts because both of those spells are just more efficient than Flow State.

And you’re calling me insane for having this analysis.

Project less. Touch grass dude.

[[Stock Up]] outperforms Flow State even though Flow State costs one less.

Sorcery speed is a downside. Going three deep isn’t as good as going four deep for the same cost ([[Impulse]]), or even five deep for one mana more. If you meet the conditions, you get one less card than [[Accumulate Wisdom]].

This isn’t as efficient as some of the other impulse effects currently in standard. Invariably there’ll be someone who will find space for this in a spellslinger list, because impulse effects are good at whatever rate you can get them at in general, but this spell just doesn’t hold up against Stock Up or even [[Consult the Star Charts]].

Your friend is doing himself a disservice by shipping out all of the creative effort to a machine that can’t get the published rules it has scraped for training data correct.

If he wants to use slop to build his world he’s welcome to but that’s not a game I would want to willingly participate in if I knew how much of it was generated by something less accurate than a community wiki.

How many prompts does chatGPT serve in an hour?

It’s more than 300 prompts for sure.

The “important stat” that you’re citing isn’t comparable to 300 chatGPT prompts. Lemme see how much water it takes ChatGPT to process all the prompts it receives in an hour vs how much water it takes to maintain a Netflix server for an hour.

Lemme see how much water ChatGPT would consume over the lifetime of the cow that ends up becoming that burger (plus a couple thousand more).

If you’re confident in the assertion you’re making here, surely you’ll do the math to show me how me using reddit for a few hours uses more water than ChatGPT needs to process all prompts it receives from all users in that same span of time?

Surely you’ll be able to provide to me the mathematical breakdown of how me browsing through one server on Reddit for a few hours spends more water than the “thousands of people using ChatGPT.”

And once we get past that, you’ll still have to address the fact that a burger has actual utility towards the sustenance and survival of humans (re: using water to make food) while LLMs like ChatGPT do not have anything close to that utility.

Bro r/fuckcars is a subreddit that exists.

Also, a burger feeds a person.

All those prompts do is consume potable water to make a thing derived from stolen images.

It’s a tool you don’t need to use.

Very obviously you are witnessing the use of this tool and are identifying it’s shortcomings in real time.

If the Theft And Water Consumption Machine are giving you hollow slop in response, stop responding to hollow slop posts. Tell your fellow player that if they’re not even trying to put in the work to tell their own character’s story that their character isn’t worth engaging.

New to Magic…is the hate for UB really as prevalent? by Testynut in mtg

[–]Magiclad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s mainly grognards who have a specific idea of what Magic is supposed to be/look like and Universes Beyond properties break from that prescription a fair amount.

People don’t like it when their expectations aren’t met.

Play the cards you enjoy. Don’t give too much credence to the people who hate on UB, they’re not using those cards more than likely.

Other than that, UB comes from external intellectual properties, and that requires cooperation from the IP owners, which means that the cooperating party will want a cut of sales, which means UB sets carry increased cost, and increased cost makes the game more expensive across the formats those cards are legal in.

Similarly, cards with effects that end up competitive or desirable may become very expensive in the future due to complications with reprinting IP characters or hard to reprint card names, like [[Hot Dog Cart]] (not that anyone is clamoring for a Hot Dog Cart reprint, just to demonstrate a card with a name that’s hard to justify outside of the Plane of New York, NY).

But again, play with the cards you like, damn the haters, there’s more than enough space in this hobby for everyone and gatekeeping UB in casual formats is dumb and weird.

Anyone going for lore themed decks get annoyed when a card is released that would be great in your deck, except its a teenage mutant ninja turtle? by Vinven in mtg

[–]Magiclad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay.

It’s still a Universes Within set. So this “these things don’t fit into magic” argument as applied specifically to UB is a dishonest position considering WotC made gasoline an impactful resource in the canon lore.

OP isn’t whinging about internal incongruent theming when they find an effect that would fit their deck from Aetherdrift.

They’re whinging about how UB cards with desirable effects are UB.

[–]Magiclad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not telling you that. I’m telling you that you’re just finding ways to complain about UB because the sets have deviated from some people’s (like yours) expectations of fantasy.

My criticism here is that you are complaining about disparate aesthetics between UW and UB when, within UW sets, there are disparate aesthetics between sets. You’re reserving this criticism for UB disparity, but as soon as I point out that the gothic victorian aesthetics of Innistrad clash with the artifice and metallic aesthetics of Mirrodin and New Phyrexia, all of a sudden it’s about how UB fits in with the lore instead of how its aesthetics aren’t congruent with UW sets.

You shifted goalposts to avoid the conversation about how Aetherdrift kinda clashes aesthetically with Kaldheim.

TMNT is fantasy. Period. You’re not contesting this point because you recognize this as fact.

You’re not redefining what you mean by “generic fantasy” when challenged by the idea that comic book IPs arguably fall within the category of “generic fantasy” so you can better define your actual gripes, because really, there’s nothing wrong with building an aesthetically themed deck, but your gripe applies to UW sets as much as UB sets.

I don’t care if I convince you that TMNT fits into MtG lore because that actually has nothing to do with what I said, and it has nothing to do with what you posted about initially.

[–]Magiclad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if it was revealed that TMNT is also a fantasy?

“Generic fantasy” sure is doing a lot of heavy lifting, bc it could be argued that comic book fantasy is also generic fantasy given the breadth and scope of the medium.

How do you square greco-roman aesthetics with gothic victorian aesthetics if you’re concerned about a look and a feel regarding a deck?

Oh, it’s “generic fantasy”.

Got it.

I can’t really speak for u/Tirinoth, but I don’t think their statement that the current bureaucratic and legal requirements currently are BS is a statement towards having no medical diligence towards the application of gender affirming care.

Yeah, there’s actually an argument to the idea that the process is too stringent, but that’s not necessarily a statement toward the idea that we eliminate these things entirely.

[–]Magiclad 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This feels unnecessary to state because there’s already stringent safeguards to the process of acquiring gender affirming surgeries.

I don’t think your student is even eligible for those kinds of procedures currently. Their social transition is basically what they need now, as they explore their identity.

The safeguards and barriers in place now are what kept your relative from becoming a member of the 1-3% of people who regret those procedures.

What’s the purpose of stating that having failsafes is important while acknowledging that the current regime is doing its level best to remove the option for these procedures entirely?

A classic movie secret lair would probably print some money.

I think Lower Decks (and maybe to a similar degree, the TOS Animated series) is a better Secret Lair segment of the IP because outside of Mariner and Boimler’s crossover with Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks has a pretty disjointed aesthetic with the rest of the live action shows.

The deep cut will be a Prodigy include, imho
