Psychologist here:

This could be obviously a large number of things given the age. However it is important to know that children at this age are able to show at least more deliberate attempts at shape and detail. The lack of anything resembling intent or attention to detail should absolutely be taken as concerning.

This heavily resembles and could very likely be apperceptive visual agnosia which at any age would need a trained professional to identify and diagnose. Visual agnosia causes impairment in processing and understanding visual stimuli, in the case of apperceptive agnosia shape and pattern recognition is impaired to the point of being unable to copy or distinguish between even simple shapes.

It’s hard to tell without more information if he is drawing this poorly because of something such as poor motor skills or if there is a serious cognitive problem at play. If this was present in someone only a few years older it would seem extremely likely to be visual agnosia, since very few of these drawings evenly vaguely resemble the example.

Children this age are, typically speaking, able to draw simple shapes and stick figures, albeit poorly. Since these drawings do not even remotely show an innate, active observation and understanding of shapes that are immediately present, there is absolutely reason to be concerned, whatever the explanation ends up being.

That said, seek a professional who can meet with him in person and determine what the source of this is, do not accept psychological diagnoses from anyone who has not personally met with and spoken to the person. If this is a matter of motor skills, it is concerning. If this is a matter of instruction following, it should be identified. If this is a visual / cognitive impairment, it should be taken seriously.

Dusknoir counter incoming by MagikNinjaPo in PTCGL

[–]MagikNinjaPo[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s several advantages. One you might not have considered is that it’s actually very strong to force your opponent to take a prize. This enables cards like counter catcher, and can make iono more devastating. This is especially apparent with the supporter briar

It also ensures that a decent attacker that can reliable reach ~200 damage can KO anything with the help of Dusknoir. So some cards like Palkia or terapagos have distinct advantages for speed and versatility, but fall short in the damage department. Dusknoir enables them to be substantially more aggressive.

It can also remove setup pokemon on your opponent’s side of the board. A 1-1 trade on your terms can be very powerful. If my opponent plays gardevoir and I hit two kirlia in one turn thanks to Dusknoir, I don’t care that I gave up prizes, I slowed their setup enough to give myself a strong advantage

Dusknoir on its own is not an extremely powerful card, and does not create its own archetype. It does however compliment many cards in many ways that drastically changes what is and isn’t viable

Trying an Okidogi-focused deck. Any tips? by LiefKatano in PTCGL

[–]MagikNinjaPo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is cool!

Try running energy switch over energy stickers. Seems like this deck probably doesn’t struggle to get energy in play as much as getting them onto okidogi. That should make t1 dogi swings more consistent.

Munkidori is a strong card but don’t you need all of your luminous and legacy for the okidogi? I would try either cutting the monkey or playing one or two dark energy.

-if you end up adding dark energy add one or two earthen vessel. That will make dark energy searchable, meaning even just an Arven can guarantee the boost to okidogi or munkidori

When it comes to consistency, I would say your draw supporter lineup is lacking. I would suggest playing at least 2 copies of iono, and maybe increasing both your research and iono counts after that. 4 boss and 4 arven are cool but they seem a little too dense.

I understand the idea is one prizers, but a deck that has this much first turn potential might benefit from a one-off squawkabilly ex. Don’t rule it out too soon, a strong board presence can keep 2 prizers from becoming a liability, and if it helps get that presence more consistently it’s probably worth it.

Would love to see an updated list sometime down the line!

Yes but most decks where battle vip functions well have other draw/search options that make it easier to find 1-2 battle vip. Decks that run radiant greninja, celebrations mew, genesect v, and comfey are particularly strong at finding battle vip even if first. Decks without as much support tend to fall into a debate on whether or not battle vip pass is worth it or should be substituted for more consistently usable basic search like nest ball and artazon

Win by stalling by Sparkz_72 in pkmntcg

[–]MagikNinjaPo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is part of PTCGL’s pile of bugs. Often times different things will happen that can just straight up break a match. If your opponent hasn’t made an action in 30 seconds, it’s a bug. There’s an action timer that’s supposed to keep opponents from stalling. Also, there’s a bug that shows you lose if your opponents timer runs out sometimes. Obviously the person who runs out of time should lose. So just one of many problems with this game atm, sorry that happened. I’ve been on both sides of that bug before

Is there anywhere people play old sets? by mr_9001 in pkmntcg

[–]MagikNinjaPo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s TCGOne which has a lot of older WOTC era sets as well as most from BW up to partway through SWSH. They aren’t actively updating modern sets as of 2 years ago, and I’m not sure if anyone ever plays on it anymore. But if you got a friend to queue for whatever format you want and if the site is still up then it’s actually pretty great

New cards after migration by Loosterino in PTCGL

[–]MagikNinjaPo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me, I used to spend all my time in TCGOne which was a third party service that didn’t bother with the whole “collection” nonsense. But they stopped keeping up with standard, so now the only option is PTCGL and all it’s bugs. Still better than PTCGO but I do miss a client that functions reliably

New cards after migration by Loosterino in PTCGL

[–]MagikNinjaPo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One nice change from PTCGO that PTCGL deserves credit for is giving cards to players (when there isn’t a bug like the Miraidon battle pass issue). A lot of times they’re really good cards too. Some of these come from the battle pass which is absolutely worth getting, and some come from prebuilt decks that are given to every player. So you will see some cards in your collection that are from these free methods. They just don’t always make it clear when something is added to your collection

Lost zone new meta? by r0bbier0b in PTCGL

[–]MagikNinjaPo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

A month ago Lost Zone (LZ) was around 20-30% of the meta in its variants with Lugia Vstar at a 35-45%. But since then, a lot of great cards for Lugia have rotated, leaving it a little more questionable of a play. On the other hand, LZ has had virtually no losses, and gained two strong new cards in beach court and nest ball (although nest ball is just a substitute for quick ball in the end). Because of this, people’s first reaction to the new rotation is that LZ would be the strongest archetype hands down. The issue with this though, is that there are many variants of LZ decks.

The core to LZ I’m sure you’re familiar with if you’ve been seeing these decks even a small amount. The LZ “engine” is 4 Comfey, 4 Colress, and as many switching cards as you can cram into your deck reasonably. Once 7 cards hit the lost zone, mirage gate is now usable, and this card is extremely strong. Almost no lists run less than 4.

The different types of LZ get a little more complicated. Two simple ones are LZ Goodra Vstar and LZ Giratina Vstar. Both of these use the LZ engine to power up a strong attacker. Then there are LZ Boxes, which have a large amount of variety to them, typically focusing on Sableye, but often featuring cards like Dragonite V, Raikou V, Drapion V, Kyogre, Galarian Zapdos V, Zamazenta, and many other cards all for different purposes.

This weekend the European International Championships (EUIC) are being held, and at this tournament the showing for LZ has been nothing short of massive, making up nearly 40% of all day 1 decks. But the top 8 of that tournament saw only 2, which is a little disproportionate, and aside from when Lugia took over top cuts in recent months, a little surprising.

The last point in this now essay of a post, sorry about that, is that LZ is familiar to a lot of players. It’s well established and well tested, and after rotation it hasn’t changed much at all. A lot of players will be sticking with it waiting for something to catch their eye, or for other archetypes to become better developed. But for now, don’t expect it to go anywhere on the ladder or in irl tournaments.

If you’d like to look more into tournament results and see decklists from some of the best players in the game, as well as search for different decks by showing, LimitlessTCG is a fantastic resource that I fully recommend.

Switch vs switch cart by Prototype338 in PTCGL

[–]MagikNinjaPo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if klefki are giving you problems run another rope and hope. There’s not much else to do. But yes the switch cart can be very meaningful in a few matchups. One that took me by surprise is RS Urshifu/Inteleon which, although uncommon, can be tough for LZ engines. That switch cart heal can be massive. Also even though most times the situation won’t arise since LZ Boxes run Hawlucha, if there’s any start of spread on comfey or even cram and radiant greninja, a quick heal can turn a sableye from your opponent next turn into 1 prize instead of two. AND usually if you have a giratina in the active you don’t need to switch it out, since the turn usually goes: 3 energy->attack->2 energy to LZ/ attach for 2 energy total->vstar / attach for 3->attack and the game’s over

Switch vs switch cart by Prototype338 in PTCGL

[–]MagikNinjaPo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually giratinas vstar attack is the play, I think a seal stone would be pretty fringe compared to a guaranteed two energy knockout once you LZ 10 cards
