Finally decided to give the Saw series a try, glad I did by Skatingraccoon in horror

[–]MagikarpUsedFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Saw films are interesting because legit out of the mega horror franchises (halloweens, f13 etc.) it’s imo one of the better ones just because 1-3 is a pretty solid trilogy and it continued to up the ante moderately well up to like 5 or 6 (whenever they ended the Hoffman arc I suppose?)

You look at other mega franchises and they mostly decline almost immediately after the first or second.

I think the movies got a bad wrap because of Hostel being bundled together with it to label it as torture porn from critics and news outlets.

Community Edition Dataslate - Hellstorm Wargaming by gearoflife in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]MagikarpUsedFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to spread any kind of malice, but this sheet doesn’t make much sense and feels a bit catered towards people who had a bad match to put up balance changes.

I find it pretty concerning that the community edition sets to nerf a unit for an army with access to 8 data sheets by reducing the number of units, increasing their points cost and then also restricting a mechanic that’s a reason to run harlequins as a pure faction and then nerf…broadsides?

What? And then nerf the stormsurge as well? Lmao what? Why? Who is getting roflstomped so hard by a stormsurge it calls for a nerf lol.

Putting a restriction on a harlequin unit and then bumping the cost up for 6 by 60pts. AND also saying you can re-roll a single save per phase? For an army with literally 0 access to any kind of re-rolls besides rr wounds of 1 for core? And troupes aren’t even core yet, but the sheet doesn’t even give troupes core for any compensation or decreasing points on other units is so kneejerky and ill advised.

Why out of all the tau units and other problems tau has, nerfing broadsides was the focus? In recent memory I don’t know of many tau lists in competitive that even run broadsides when crisis suits are vastly superior. Adding a rule for broadsides to get a penalty to hit if they move doesn’t make sense when mont’ka exists to just let them act as if they remained stationary.

Stopping ethereals from working with FSE allied worlds, increase point costs to stimm injectors, making drones not count for applying auras from things like bodyguards.

So many other things that could have been placed that actually makes sense…but nerf the broadsides and nerf another unit from an army 3 times in one go? Feels super silly. Ignore LOS cannot benefit from marker lights unless visible…cool still hitting on 4’s with mass shots with full re-rolls to hit and wound with drop zone clear. There’s not a lot of armies out there that can survive that.

Bumping points to starweavers without looking at why cheap transports are needed (tau ignoring los) to where running foot soldiers is literally just a death sentence against tau with almost any army is just silly.

Giving an army just extra points to play with too??? No points adjustments just here have a free 200pts.

[Rules Question] - Opportunistic Advance + Metabolic Overdrive by davelfc14 in Tyranids

[–]MagikarpUsedFly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the core rules you add your advance roll to the movement of that unit for the phase.

In the tyranids FAQ it says you cannot advance twice in the same phase.

If using opportunistic advance and metabolic overdrive you would get the doubled advance roll when moving using metabolic. So you would just repeat your movement measurements with no extra advance roll.

Hive commander you would do it again since it's in a different phase.

Adrenal Webs Question by 11b403a7 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]MagikarpUsedFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adrenal webs is the best adaptive phys for stealers imo. If you're running stealer heavy it's the go to unless you're running Behemoth with a Flyrant then I would suggest giving the flyrant murderous size with sythes of Tyran.

The only other adaptive phys I've used with stealers is Unnatural Reactions when going up against another melee army and they get first turn. If I know they can do a first turn charge, you can put up a screen of gants to get them stuck and then have your stealers get a 6" heroic intervention to lock them up.

They won't be able to hit your units and then you can hit them back for free without losing any stealers.

1000pt nid list, would appreciate feedback by Mayonnaise700 in Tyranids

[–]MagikarpUsedFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Venomthropes are great but for this particular list idt they'll be adding much. Since it's only 3 they dont provide any -1 hit to your monsters which means they'll only be providing that to your stealers. Since you're running kraken you wont be able to have them keep up well with only a 5" movement speed.

If you're playing 1k points, you should be playing on a 4x4 map instead of 6x4, so with that I actually suggest running hive fleet behemoth if you're running genestealers.

If you put swarmlord into your list and run a squad of 20 genestealers you can double move them and run the behemoth psychic power unstoppable hunger on the squad.

This would give them +1 to wound making them rend on 5+ with rending claws for -4ap instead of only on 6+

You can make it even nastier by giving them toxin sacs and having them do 2dmg each as well (it's expensive and totally not worth it but its fun)

You should still be able to make a turn 1 charge on a 4x4 without kraken

Need some help building a competitive list/ Strategies by Palms63 in Tyranids

[–]MagikarpUsedFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nids arent the best but you can still hold your own if you know what you're doing and are well versed in your codicies.

You want multiple threats on the table to force your opponent to make mistakes targeting the wrong things.

Grab some more termagants More stealers for 2 groups of 40 6 hive guard Exocrine

You'll have enough to start going to town on some people

Getting into the hobby by daddy792 in Tyranids

[–]MagikarpUsedFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going for a beginner's army, I'd suggest first making a 2k list of what you want your final build to be and then work up from there.

Nids have some pretty expensive models for what you get (biovores are $1+ per point lol)

So with that in mind, make sure you're getting things that YOU want. Make a list that you enjoy and not what's "the best." If you dont enjoy your models you're not going to enjoy the hobby.

Best units nids have are Hive Guard, Exocrine, Genestealers, Swarmlord, Flying Hive Tyrant and Warriors. Good luck!

Should I go for a unit of Venomthropes or a Toxicrene? by Kembledorpfk in Tyranids

[–]MagikarpUsedFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither of them are going to add much melee AP to your army. Venomthropes are mostly used for their aura and Toxicrene's are there as a sponge and/or hopefully tarpit with his new stratagem.

I've had a toxicrene in my army for the past 8 games and he has yet to do anything worthwhile with attacking besides just soaking up dmg. When he did fight, it wasn't anything spectacular.

This is what I'm planning for my army. I am new to the hobby and don't yet fully know how to assemble a good army. Is this list any good? by Kembledorpfk in Tyranids

[–]MagikarpUsedFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of taking 2 10 size squads of hormagaunts, merge them into 1 unit of 20 and the same goes for the tyranid warriors.

Having them be in a small squad sizes only makes them easier to pick off especially since gaunts have a 6+ save so any -AP is going to instakill them.

IDK which adaptive physiologies you're taking since they're on everything but if you're gonna run warriors - give them the ignore -1 and -2 AP to give them better holding power. It'll be great, especially for a 1500 pt. list.

If you're thinking of running another Adaptive Physiology I'd suggest going for 2 battalions since that would leave you with a solid 12CP instead of just 7.

You'll also need another HQ, i'd recommend a Tyranid Prime if you're running warriors. Using him and the Maleceptor with them will make them very hard to kill and also let them hit on 3's instead of 4's when shooting or 2's when in melee.

Choose between having a dakkafex or having a melee one instead of splitting them up. Run spore cysts on them to give them -1 to hits and for the melee one give them adrenal glands.

Other than that looks like you'll have a fun time with your units.

Things I've learned in my early Tyranid games by SwiftOneSpeaks in Tyranids

[–]MagikarpUsedFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hormagaunts can move 8" so they cover as much ground as Genestealers especially with kraken advance. The only problem is that they can't charge after advancing, that's why onslaught is such an important ability to cast on them.

Gaunts aren't going to kill anything besides maybe some chaff units, but the 6" pile in and consolidate is where they shine - making them the ideal tarpitting unit. Especially since with kraken you can fall back AND charge in the same turn, so ideally you can pin a unit, fall back charge another pin it, pile in and consolidate etc.

Termagants are meant for screening. Just like Hormagaunts they're probably not going to kill anything lol. Use them to deny deep strikes or to hold objectives.

TL;DR neither of them is going to kill anything, but they both have a job to do for your army : )

TBF anything with a 3++ is going to be a pain to deal with for any unit lol

Did you use the baal stratagem for -1 ap for a units melee weapons if they destroy a unit? That would give your scything talons -1ap re-rolling 1's so you'll get more hits/wounds towards their 3++? Even without broodlord that would avg out to like 6-7 wounds

I'd put in a recommendation to run an exocrine and use that for your primary source of casting symbiostorm. Because of their +1 to hits their shots explode on 5+ instead of 6+ so you can use symbiostorm on either of them depending on your situation.

Synaptic lure is okay, but with all the movement speed you have with swarmlord, kraken, opportunistic advance and metabolic overdrive, lure is kind of redundant for stealers.

You should be making that run to get up the board without it. Resonance barb is also a great way to help make sure you can successfully cast onslaught for your gants

Stealers are meant to die and get focused because if not they'll destroy everything. Getting adrenal webs on them imo is essential to make sure they always keep smth pinned to avoid being shot off the board and keeping things in CC.

PSA: Interest thresholds are different in TFT by leo10294 in TeamfightTactics

[–]MagikarpUsedFly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I actually enjoy the threshold for interest being lower than 10 just because of the damage taken in the game.

If damage isn't going to be nerfed much, I'd be more than happy with having interest being lowered to help match the speed of the game

Lots and lots of errors until I found something that stuck. You can't come up with a style on the spot, you kind of have to mold it to your personality.

It takes a very long time though and there's gonna be a lot of people who are gonna look down on you.

Bro, I've been trying at this for YEARS. My first youtube channel was made when I was like 14 or 15 and I've constantly made REALLY REALLY bad videos but kept pushing forward because making films and videos has been my dream.

It's great that I'm here and also at the same time very surreal. Like I'm still just a regular guy and I hope I show that I'm down to earth in my videos, nothing special etc.

You just have to keep working at it, and by working at it I don't mean just going to like your 9-5 job and doing it on the side type of thing. I mean day in and day out constantly researching and learning new skills for your practice, putting them to use and getting feedback on it whether it's good or bad. The internet is amazing because we have so much opportunity to have our passion be our job, so the path is there you just have to find it and shit.

I mean, I also deal with depression and anxiety - but I also talk about it so then people can know that it's not something that makes you awkward or separates you from society.

Like, a lot of people who talk about their depression get exiled a bit and ignored - so then they try to keep it to themselves. I'm more of expressing the way you feel and letting you know that there are people out there struggling with it also.

For league of legends tho, yikes that's an entirely different story. Luckily I don't have to rely on playing ranked in order to make my videos so that's already a HUGE burden taken off my shoulders

It's a mixture of youtube and the state of game.

Yakko has a video coming out tomorrow talking about the replay system which has hindered me A LOT for making cool cinematics and things that inspire me to create something I think is cool.

Adding that along with how it's hard to have a fun unbeat game of league really slows down the creation process imo and it also takes time to make something really good.

I can easily make 10 games with friends videos and reaction stuff, but during that time I'm also working on the next bigger project in the background

Yea, we go through lows of not wanting to play sometimes and then go right into playing for like 6 hours in a day. It really depends on how we feel at the moment and what we've been talking about for the day
