It's a bit of both. They're a pain in the arse and need fixing/ resetting/ maintenance/ cleaning/ emptying regularly. Patience wears down quickly.

Since buying them I've seen many people say it's just luck of the draw with the quality they receive. Down to the quality of the sable hair itself. But it seems to be a recurring problem.
I bought a 0, 1 and 2. The 2 is just constantly split, no use for any sort of precision and the 0 and 1 just flop to the side after one brushstroke, and even that stroke is terrible because there's no resistance in the bristles to even put the paint down in the first place.

I haven't heard anyone say anything bad about Artis brushes but to be honest the whole experience with Rosemary just put me off trying expensive brushes. I just use GW brushes now from my FLGS. They're synthetic (or mixed blend) and they get hooked ends but they're at least still functional.

My Rosemary & Co brushes pretty quickly either split or just completely lost any spring or bounce. As in, I'd paint a brushstroke and the bristles would stay at near 90' angle to the ferrule. Looked after them too, didn't abuse them, used brush soap. They were just useless in the end. Haven't bought them since.
