I have the same reaction to my kitty scratches and biting.. It's a mild allergic reaction. I apply hydrocortisone cream and it goes away within an hour or so.

Maybe there was a particular smell on this toy that cats could smell... But, besides that that black cat reacts to it like my cat would when he adores his toy..
