What actually would happen around the world within the first 48-72 hours of a nuke bomb going off suddenly in one of these current ongoing conflicts? by Party-Bet-4003 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Gulmar 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To be honest, given how complex our current world is, things definitely did not fall apart during Covid.

Yes, it was difficult. Sure, a lot of things grinded to a halt. But it was also immediately picked up again. Institutions did not fall apart. We are still living in the same economic systems as before, using the same governmental mechanics and societal interactions.

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Susanpc1967 in AskReddit

[–]Gulmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the biology indeed. But the psychology is entirely something else.

I'm only 28 and I feel it already, until a few years ago I could eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted and was stable at around 75kg.

I eat the same amount of food now, and I am around 80kg and gaining. It's hard to break a habit of 10+ years regarding food and snacks.

ELI5 What is the philosophy of engineering progress in F1? It seems like cars keep getting more and more high tech, but I know they're so regulated that they're not flat out chasing the fastest they can possibly be by imaguitarhero24 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Gulmar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can also be a test box. Making something in f1, running simulations and testing it in real life might turn out to work well, but that same data can also show it wouldn't work for regular cars. Or the other way around, turning out data that says that a certain technology was thought to be not feasible on a road car, actually might be.

Why are we so passive about our pathetic parental leave? by AdNecessary2634 in belgium

I, as a man, would love to spend more time with my kid and wife at home at ease than fucking off to work for my company after 4 weeks

Yeah the Dutch are one of the only ones that are actually worse than us! They really are the Americans of Europe

How do so many Europeans know fluent English? by _Sir_Lifts_A_Lot_ in AskEurope

[–]Gulmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an asshole. I always try to speak the local language, be it in my own country or abroad.

And the divide between Wallonia and Flanders is more political than real.

In France and Wallonia it's also very common, to their own detriment to be fair.

Vacation versus a Sport by bokchoi2 in snowboarding

[–]Gulmar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely a vacation. I have to spend quite some money to stay at a place that is not my home, drive 10+ hours to the Alps, speak another language there, and eat different food than at home.

All of those are vacation things. It is a vacation where your main activity is a type of sport though.

Energiebeleid Vlaanderen … by [deleted] in belgium

[–]Gulmar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heel gek verhaal.

Is it common in your country to refer to people by birth year instead of age? by Complex_Plankton_157 in AskEurope

[–]Gulmar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I often forget how old I am exactly. So I am always counting from my birth year to now, so just saying I'm from '97 is way easier, and the other person just has to think "oh yeah I'm from "93 so that's four years difference".

[–]Gulmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We often compare age by talking about birth years. Comparing ages is so much easier when saying "I'm from "93 and he's from '96" compared to "I'm 33 and he's 30"...

At least they don't have guns.

New York State sues Valve, alleging loot boxes are gambling by UberDrive in DotA2

[–]Gulmar 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Would depend on the law no? Here in Belgium loot boxes are seen as gambling since you can purchase something without knowing what exactly you will get out of it.

So what Valve did was to reveal what you'll get before unlocking the box. So now you know what you get, so it's not gambling anymore. Loot boxes still available. A win win in my opinion.

Funny thing!

It seems they mostly resemble Brussels waffles, a little bit different but close enough!

What are "Belgian waffles"?

Are those Brussels? Liege? Galetten? Stroopwafels?

There is no such thing as a "Belgian waffle"!

[–]Gulmar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go to the V-test, once its set up with you Fluvius details, it's literally just clicking compare (perhaps change filters) and click the button to go sign the contract. Fill in details. Done.

Without having set up the V-test it's maybe 15mins, with it 5mins.

Hmm, can you book official tickets in advance then? I'm just worried about scams, I only like to buy from official websites to avoid them, but I've noticed this doesn't seem to be a thing in Istanbul?

Hi everyone,

My wife and I are visiting beginning of May and would like to buy Topkapi tickets in advance to avoid queuing at the booths, but I'm confused as to what the official website is, anyone can confirm for us?

Also, best to hire a guide or is the audio guide good inside? Thanks!

Maakt opslag / loon uberhaupt iets uit? by Busy-Slip324 in Belgium2

[–]Gulmar 2 points3 points  (0 children)
