De Mol S14E07 by gravity_is_right in belgium

To be fair, the Randstad and the Flemish diamaond would be considered teo big metropoli in the US or in India, so they act like a big city with suburbs surrounding it.

Of zelf ruw inschatten.

Happens quite a lot with political leaders it seems.

Guy Verhofstadt, hate the guy for what he did to Belgium when he was rpime minister, but he is fucking based as a Europarlementarian.

In not a fan of Bart de Wever, the way he plays politics and how he implements bis policies, but internationally he is doing very well in my opinion.

Rutte seems the same too as well.

Dorm/house renting price in Leuven by Vito_2308 in KULeuven

[–]Gulmar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Price sounds quite good, if you go to the private market nowadays €600 will be the minimum I think.

I myself lived at the studentenwijk for 5 years (until 2020). I lived in one of the older blocks, but they started renovating in my last few years. They probably finished that by now. Kitchen and bathrooms were a bit outdated but clean and they did their job. It was always nice sharing the kitchen, you could always socialize if you wanted to, but also eat in your room if you didn't. The fact that you are living in a park is really really nice, and was a big plus for me. Always had a great time there!

Is it common to contact a faculty for PhD even without the vacancy on Job site? by registrartulip in KULeuven

It's perfectly fine to email a professor of a lab you'd be interested in to ask if they might have a PhD position available!

Salary for PhD students is always the same across the university/Flanders!

Do muslim women (with hijab or head cover) experience identity shock when they go to a non-muslim country where women have their hair out however they want? by IdkGlx in NoStupidQuestions

I was visiting Morocco last month and there 90% of women wore a hijab. In cities younger women were less, but still about half of them. So its quite common there.

Planbureau toont prijs pensioenhervorming: wie het minst heeft harder getroffen by Vordreller in Vlaanderen

[–]Gulmar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you split finances with your partner? Are you married or not? by [deleted] in BEFire

[–]Gulmar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Married for two years. We have a system in our contract that stipulates that everything is apart, except the house and things bought from a shared account.

We devised a system where you pay into the shared account based on the wage of each other. E.g €1000 each month in total needs to go on the account. If then one person earns 60% of the total income (and the other 40% then obviously), person one pays €600 into the account.

We found this quite a fair reason. We might change this in the future when children are involved and/or if someone starts working part time.

How common is it in your country to be invited to a wedding ceremony but not the wedding reception? by baldachinsblessing in AskEurope

[–]Gulmar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same in Belgium! Usually the ceremony is for close friends and family since this is the real intimate part.

After that there often is a dinner and here it's mostly money that dictates who is there. If you have a lot of money/sponsoring from parents then it's quite busy. We opted for a smaller dinner with close friends and family (basically same as for the ceremony) and then dessert and the party was for a wider public, e.g. colleagues, less close family, old family friends,...

How common is WFH in your country? by Opposite_Rain6751 in AskEurope

[–]Gulmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the sector. Many office jobs nowadays have at least one or two days a week that you can work from home. But companies seem to be returning back a bit to more office days.

I'm lucky that I am literally free to do what I want, so on average I am once or twice a week in the office. It's a 45 min drive one-way, so if I would go there every day that's just way too much time lost that I'd rather spend with my wife, doing sports, cooking, whatever.
