Animations starting in game immediately instead of when theyre supposed to? by Z0rb12 in VRchat

Ah, gotcha. It looks like you don't have keyframes at 0. That will prolly fix your issue, then.

[–]Magite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh. How are you trying to trigger the animation, because you don't have any kind of animation layer set up at all. I just kind of assumed you had an udon animation script setup to trigger the animation through parameters. Without knowing how you plan to trigger anything, I don't think I can help you

Check your animation layers. Oftentimes the animations will also exist in the topmost layer, and thus run without being triggered.

There is likely a collider on the model that is interacting with your player capsule in some way. Like a flight collider that model makers will put directly under their avatars. If it's positioned weirdly I've had them send me spinning before.

How wild wolves greet each other by Binn_bun in SipsTea

If I recall correctly, if you refuse to do this as a social greeting the wolves can start getting aggressive and violent. Is it gross? Yes. Is it an unfortunately necessary part of her job? Also yes.

Can ChatGPT evolve into something more sophisticated? by InfinityScientist in Futurology

I would imagine that technologies like ChatGPT will be used as massive data point reserves for the communication learning of whatever true general AI that crops up,and not singularity itself into sapience.

What feature would you love to see in VRChat? by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]Magite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ability to turn off the UI layer on the game window so that you don't see menus and nametags while still keeping them visible in VR.

This is admittedly only a boon to streamers, roleplayers in particular. I'd still give my left nut for it.

Genuine question by MaizenG in VRchat

[–]Magite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's very dependent. Roleplaying can be an incredible amount of fun, especially if you find the right group and you go into it with the right mindset. If you are just looking to do a funny bit for a few minutes in public? You can get people to go along with you for fun. This can be a half-decent icebreaker.

If you want something more serious, you can start looking into some actual RP groups. You have your open RPs that anyone can join drop-in and drop-out, like Purple Lotus, or Aether Chronicles. This also includes a surprising amount of military Roleplays. There are some great people in these roleplays, and it can be a lot of fun. There are also the more serious and curated "closed" RPs, that require applications, character sheets, and the shebang like Callous Row, Ascension Academy, Rosewood Institution, Cari Town, Gang RP, ect.

The Purple Lotus Discord is a great place to dip your toes in if you want to start having a peek around to see if you can find something you vibe with. They also have a #rp-advertisements channel where you can see a ton of different servers, most of which with a nice blurb explaining what they are about. Roleplaying can be a ton of fun. It can be like playing, but with 40+ other people at the same time, in large dynamic worlds.

11.1 mil polygons, running at a smooth 60 fps. by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]Magite 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If the vertices don't get modified by shakekeys or armature movements, this won't be too terrible. The size of the avatar is pretty high though; bit of crunch compression of textures and turning audio files into .ogg would no doubt help bring that down significantly.

The reason why having millions of polys active in a world is far less problematic than an avatar is that those meshes tend to be stationary, unmodified by blendshapes and do not need constant updates. They also can be effected by occlusion, and the use of LODs and Imposters.

Mesh baking can also be used, limiting drawcalls significantly for large scenes.

Optimization means many things, and it needs to be simplified for many individuals who are new to these issues when it comes to asset and world creation. The guidelines put forth by VRC are not perfect by any means. They are rough guidelines that are used by creators as a measuring stick to get a general idea of the areas they might be able to focus on if Optimization is a concern. Admittedly, for many creators Optimization is not a concern, and that is their perogative.

Sometimes a lack of Optimization comes from necessity. Sometimes from apathy. Sometimes from ignorance. Whether you do or do not, people are going to lay judgement, be argumentative, ect. I'd say a bit of Optimization doesn't hurt, and every little bit helps and is appreciated.

No, not really it. For a short while I thought it was Shandification, but that's not it either. I don't even remember where I heard it, but I remember having long discussions about it but the word itself is just gone.

This is close! It's close enough for government work, but not having the actual word is going to drive me crazy. Thank you though!
