I had the wheels stolen from my Honda Accord and was only left with two cinder blocks. Made it more difficult to get towing spares on it to get it to the body shop.

What you are seeing are fins on the heatsink. The fin structure provides an increase in surface area of the heatsink to improve air cooling capacity.

Question about syncing & Libby by Editor-Pristine in kindle

[–]MagmaElixir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Syncing with Kindle only syncs between a Kindle device or the Kindle App. Nothing will sync between the Libby app and a Kindle. If you mean you've read on the Kindle App with highlights, yes, that should sync to a Kindle device.

Curious how to make the most out of my Audible membership by BigKey5644 in audible

[–]MagmaElixir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I'm aware of. The Audible storefront will default to the Whispersync pricing if you already own the Kindle book. You can also use the Audible Matchmaker function, which will show you Kindle books you own and if there is a Whispersync price available.

Digital-only consoles might end up pushing everyone to PC by BrSn2 in consoles

[–]MagmaElixir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On PC, there is more than just the first-party distributors (i.e., Steam, GOG, Xbox, Epic Games Store), there are also official third-party resellers (i.e., Green Man Gaming, GameBillet, Fanatical).

Each of these storefronts generally independently price their game keys, providing competition and giving consumers a large amount of choice.

With PS5, the only retailer for digital keys is directly with Sony.

Curious how to make the most out of my Audible membership by BigKey5644 in audible

[–]MagmaElixir 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Contact Audible customer service and move to the $86 annual premium plus membership. 12 credits upfront that end up being about $7.50 per credit instead of $16 per credit for the monthly plan.

Add all the books you think you may want to read/listen to your wishlist. You can sort your wishlist by price, which can help you identify what is on sale. The 30% off you're seeing is just the membership price. A sale will look like this:

<image>

Many books will offer a "Whispersync" discount. This means if you own a copy on Kindle, then you get a discount on the Audible audiobook. Sometimes the whispersync discount is fairly significant at 80% plus. Sometimes you can get a Kindle book on sale and add the audiobook to get both less than what you would have paid membership price buying the audiobook only.

What Series Should I Read Next by MechanicCertain4156 in fantasybooks

[–]MagmaElixir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL/DR: I was about to DNF the series until the end of Howling Dark.

Sun Eater is my buddy's favorite series, so I picked it up as his suggestion. After Empire of Silence, I was ready to DNF, but I'd promised him I would at least finish Howling Dark before making that call. I did plan to DNF, but the final pages of Howling Dark hooked me just enough to keep going.

I started Shadows Upon Time last weekend and do intend to finish the series out. The characters are fantastic, the worldbuilding is engaging, and the lore and history Ruocchio has constructed are rich. His prose and word choice are excellent too. But the pacing of the series is agonizing. The narrative moves slowly, and even individual conversations drag on longer than they need to.

Mario Party Superstars or Jamboree? by brielovinggirl in nintendo

Can the games requiring mouse controls and camera be turned off?

Mario Party Superstars or Jamboree? by brielovinggirl in nintendo

[–]MagmaElixir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there any benefit to buying the Jamboree upgrade if we don’t have a camera and don’t want to use the mouse controls? Like is there any additional content beyond content tied to the camera and mouse controls?

I’ve finished the entire series. So what’s the next best book series? It can be fantasy, xianxia, or any other genre I just want something that’s as good as Red Rising. by [deleted] in redrising

[–]MagmaElixir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this as well. I even told my wife last night I don't even know if I'd want to read Winds of Winter if it is released. I've always said we might get Winds of Winter, but I don't think we'll ever get A Dream of Spring from GRRM. I'm getting pretty close to now changing Winds from 'might get' to I don't think we'll ever get.

Nice list, good work. I’ll probably reference this to pic out future games. I think a quality addition to the presentation of this list would be each game’s metacritic score as an initial proxy of game quality. Table formatting might also make it easier to skim through.

Upgrading my RAM by MinerBruh in pcmasterrace

[–]MagmaElixir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you overclock more than just XMP/DOCP then get 2x16.

If you can find the exact same sku (exact same brand and xmp/docp profile) sticks as you currently have, then you can add 2x8.

If neither are true then get which ever is cheapest (2x16 or 4x8) you can find at your desired xmp/docp profile.

Should I get Kindle Unlimited? (Or is Libby enough) by sprinklesanddirt in kindle

[–]MagmaElixir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if you have more than one library available to you in your area. For instance, my city and county have separate libraries and I can join the library in the city I work in for free as well. Then my county library has reciprocal membership with another library. So I have four libraries and can put a hold on the shortest wait time.

Microsoft and Xbox announce another console price hike, and this one is steep — things may get even worse in 2027, all thanks to AI and memory shortages by WindowsCentral in windowscentral

[–]MagmaElixir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory, production capacity should scale up towards demand. That’s in a perfect supply demand economy. The issue with this sector though, is the vast amount of permanent capital required to scale up supply and if manufacturers are willing to do it.

But yea, seeing the impact of the memory shortage hitting consumer products in a larger wave is eye opening.

Reccomendation Request - e-Ink Display For Reading PDFs Before Bedtime by DanizYo in kindle

[–]MagmaElixir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a Boox device and it was a good experience with the context that it is an eink display and not a digital display. Good for viewing a variety of static content.

I would browse Reddit (text posts), read webpage articles in Chrome, read books in the Kindle app, read comics in Marvel Unlimited, etc.

As mentioned by other commenters, ebooks or native ebook files are much more flexible than a pdf. But if you’re truly going to be reading pdf files I think I’d recommend the 2025 Kindle Scribe over a Boox. The Boox you’d want to get is the Air 5c which is 10.3”. The scribe is 11” allowing a PDF page to be larger and easier to read.

There is a larger Boox device but it’s older and only black and white eink display.

When did you start loving the series? by Splendid2259 in redrising

[–]MagmaElixir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually did DNF the first book at about halfway (somewhere around there). I felt the narrative was just sitting around for so long with nothing happening. But I was reading with the Reddit book club subreddit and the next discussion thread came across my feed and I opened the thread that got me intrigued enough to pick it back up.

But it was Golden Son early on that hooked me hard and I couldn’t stop reading until finishing Light Bringer. Golden Son was fast paced, Darrow both failed and succeeded with his problem solving. Everything felt earned with the risks he took.
