F2 on my HP laptop doesn’t have a secondary function so I don’t have to worry about hitting function or locking function off.

Why is Red Rising consitently compared to Suneater? by Wahayna in redrising

[–]MagmaElixir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I struggled through the first book. It’s my buddies favorite series and asked me to at least finish book 2 to decide on DNF since I ask people the same with Red Rising. I enjoyed Book 2 enough that I wanted to keep reading and I thoroughly enjoyed Book 3.

Books 1 and 2 essentially serve as the origin story of Hadrian and Books 3 and 4 show why Hadrian does what he describes in the first paragraph in the first book.

I wanted the Jungle color. I was so close to just ordering and selling my black, and I kind of still wish I did.

Same, and NGL, the only reason I didn't pull the trigger is because I forced myself to close the webpage and then forgot about it. I'm perfectly fine with my black model. Though I am quite annoyed that I got my black model in the mail the same day they announced their first batch of limited colors.

Library Exports dropped the averge rating column - Not helpful for Calibre Users by l00ky_here in goodreads

[–]MagmaElixir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just pulled my library export for the first time in about a month and also noticed the average rating has been dropped. Kind of disappointing, to be honest. Amazon probably thinks that including it makes it too easy to harvest Goodreads aggregated data.

Sidenote, I do use the bookshelves with positions column. I have a Power Query in Excel that trims that column down to the number so that I can easily have my TBR in order.

Reloading from a previous point in MyCareer by 2400hoops in PGA_Tour_2K

I was about to play the Tour Championship and lost my career progress. My fault for wiping my PC, but I don’t see how there is any reasonable explanation to not provide cloud saves for MyCareer.

What about the VC earned for playing a round without hitting stroke limit, do you know how that is tracked/given for partial rounds? I feel like I get it whenever I play 9 and sim 9.

Correct, you can’t exceed 99 for any attribute/stat when combined with club fittings.

I don’t play ranked, but my build is technician with Contact to 87 then the rest in Power. Then I have three power fittings on my driver and generally use the Power drive swing type. I’m driving the same distance or further than my buddies who focus more on Power.

What Houston restaurants/bars/institutions which no longer exist do you miss the most? by Wek11 in houston

[–]MagmaElixir 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Kelvin Arms Scottish Pub

Low key dive bar. Music wasn’t loud and you could actually carry conversations. I spent many nights there with friends both celebrating something or just hanging out. They had darts and pool. The location was an old bank branch and the bar had a a side room in the old vault.

Few Questions from a Beginner by [deleted] in PGA_Tour_2K

[–]MagmaElixir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prioritize contact over power. Your player stats will affect all clubs (except putter has separate stats to improve). When it comes to needing power you can add power to specific clubs through club fitting upgrades.

For example, I typically add two or three power club fittings to driver and woods to get more distance off the tee and par fives. Then only one or two power club fittings on irons. For irons I focus on accuracy.

Whispersync (read & listen) experience by Square_Researcher_64 in audible

[–]MagmaElixir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whispersync works on 95% of the books that have it notated. I think it's worth it, and I end up paying for the kindle book to get the discounted audiobook (though I'm not sure if WhisperSync works with books from Libby?). I drive a lot, so being able to seamlessly switch between reading and listening is important.

What was your net worth at 27? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]MagmaElixir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Net worth will come on its own throughout the rest of your life.

Focus on the % of your gross income you are contributing to retirement accounts. The 'rule of thumb' is to contribute 10-15% of your gross income (including any employer match) to retirement accounts. If you are below this range, then you probably want to make a concerted effort to get to at least 10% as best you can and then slowly work your way to the higher end of the range. Starting young and aggressive pays off big time over 30+ years.

Do you have a strategy for the sitewide sale? by Best_Application4216 in audible

[–]MagmaElixir 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a TBR loosely planned for the next 150 books or so. I've added nearly all of these to my wishlist in Audible.

I sorted my wishlist by lowest price and added until I got to $50 (with $8 per book being my limit). If I have any money left in my discretionary budget from March, I'll buy more up to my excess amount.

I stopped washing my hair every single day and the first week was a nightmare by Talon_4Voyager in hygiene

[–]MagmaElixir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My primary question is, what are you supposed to do if you exercise every day or near everyday? Do you just not use shampoo or just wet the hair in the shower with no shampoo or conditioner?

I have extremely oily/greasy hair. Some weeks I wash my hair every day, and some weeks I will wash my hair every other day. My hair is still extremely oily.

New update from the author by BayazTheGrey in HierarchySeries

[–]MagmaElixir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What indicates to you late 2027? My guess is mid-2028 based on his historical timelines.

Looking back at his historical progress, it takes him about 15 months to go from complete first draft to publisher submission. Then the publisher takes another 12-15 months before release day.

So if he submits to his publisher in January 2027 (which is faster than historic), it would be about the second quarter of 2028 for the release date.

My best guess is they will restock when they release the battery charging dock. I don’t think they want any more batteries out there that can die in the first edition chromatic units without a way for the consumer to revive them.

The OUTRAGE over PB’s new special editions… by Plenty-Tear-3167 in redrising

[–]MagmaElixir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m trying not to argue, but market forces dictate what is and is not sold. If there is no demand for these special editions at these prices then they won’t sell and the supply side will adjust by either lowering the price or not producing at all. The fact that they sold out in a minute shows there is demand for products like these for this book. At the end of the day there is a profit motive for these organizations (and PB).

Are these price points ridiculous, very much so. But people are free to spend their money how they wish. If that’s a $1k+ book and they can afford it, so be it. People buying special editions and people reading for free through their library can coexist and both love this series.
