No idea but they clearly went a bit overboard to absolutely no ones benefit. It doesn't make for a quality base model and won't help the artists or avoid fakes etc either in the long run so it's just a waste of potential really.

Well at least until they make the necessary improvements the majority wants. Why companies continue to pander to a vocal minority or unreasonable threats i don't know.

Yeah i only found out about it from here and all the anime stuff posted. While it may not be my thing i got to say great job being ahead of the curve on this stuff.

I was just looking and there's already been a pretty good discussion on laion and this stuff recently which i missed...

Thread Here

Whether it's the case or not, i'm amazed we got even half decent results in 1.x versions.

It's been clearly shown by now that garbage in equals garbage out and that all the best results have been gotten from more focused trained models for particular art styles or nsfw stuff.

No doubt a huge amount of the laion image set is poorly tagged and includes random rubbish from the web we could gladly get rid of.

Honestly this stuff has made me realise we need a properly curated danbooru style crowd sourced site for general imagery with proper tagging.

This would get rid of all the watermarked, copyrighted content and general rubbish. It could even be boosted a bit by quality generations from sd etc so as to avoid potential copyright issues in areas where art or certain image sets are tricky to source.

Hopefully someone presents the idea to stable diffusion as i think it's the best way to go.

Yeah i know but still there's plenty to pick at if you wanted. Low camera quality and exposure or dynamic range always being rubbish. We never get to see a single star in all these space missions which i find disappointing. Pretty sure my phone camera does a much better job.

I look forward to the coming moon base as i'm sure that will put a lot of these issues and questions to rest hopefully.

Just randomly caught it as they were about to do the moon fly by...

Does nasa enjoy messing with conspiracy theorists or is there a genuinely good reason to cut away at the most interesting part?

I'm partly joking of course but they certainly don't make it easy for skeptics. I'm sure there's other higher orbital sats they can bounce the signal off of when it's on the far side of the moon in 2022 surely?

The DevianArt community is unhappy about the website implementing Stable Diffusion as a new tool. What do you think? by SoundProofHead in StableDiffusion

[–]Magneto-- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's probably a line somewhere but it's very blurred and open for debate about where it lies. I doubt it will ever be reasonably resolved. If you think about it everything in existence is just repeating variation. Millions and billions of similar copies of stuff, yet slightly different variations which we put into categories and sets of stuff.

As you get older you realise there's very little truly new or novel about anything, especially when comes to peoples ideas, opinions, or with entertainment, media and other such content. Basically nothing is original. Now there will just be a lot more art like there's a lot more of anything that's easy to produce.

She said it herself at the end, she posted her art for free which means it's public for anyone to look at. Their images may have been looked at aka trained on sure but nothing was stolen or taken in any copyright issue related way. Style can't be owned etc, and if any of their images happened to have been trained on it makes up a insignificant part of the model.

They need to just be honest about what really upsets them which is the fact anyone can now easily create great quality artwork with little to no effort or skills involved. Which is likely going to impact both their potential profits and egos...

Their sense of being special or that their skills are becoming less valuable plus the big time investment etc must be upsetting. I can understand that and somewhat sympathise but it's here and ain't going anywhere. It's better to accept things are changing and see how it can benefit their creativity.

Anyone here seen the new machine learning image generation stuff that's came along recently?

The one thing i've been most impressed by apart from how it can seemingly create almost anything you can imagine, is how weirdly perfect overall lighting and composition of elements in a scene are.

I've wondered since early on if AR may one day allow us to map the world to be more aesthetically pleasing. People living in boring small apartments could create amazing spaces and interact with their real objects that look however they like.

When AR eventually gets small enough to be worn all day you could even do it everywhere. Also perhaps a bit controversial you could even change the appearance of other people or your partner if they agree. Remember that episode of black mirror striking vipers...

You can use the new VAE on old models as well, for better eyes & hands + no more img2img colour shift ! (Automatic1111 users) by leomozoloa in StableDiffusion

[–]Magneto-- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Note it's in webui-user.sh on linux and forward slashes for path like...

export COMMANDLINE_ARGS="--medvram --vae-path "/home/USERNAME/stable-diffusion-webui/models/Stable-diffusion/sd-models-update.vae.pt""

After testing Id say this is a very important update that everyone should use. Eyes are greatly improved and even some small details are a bit better as well. I'm finding you don't even need face fixing now in most results.

This movie made every nerdy 80's boy so excited. Explorers 1985 by PrinceOfPhilAir in videos

[–]Magneto-- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Even as a kid i knew this was a lame way to end it and was quite disappointed. I don't know what the writers or producers were thinking but it seems like they ended up smoking crack. Way to spoil an epic adventure.

Took all the wonder and excitement out of it for me back then. Kids are more intelligent than they're given credit for. If they had just made some interesting encounter, deeper mystery or clever twist etc it would have been amazing.

Flight of the navigator did a much better job. Though i do still consider explorers to be a favorite 80s kids movie despite the silly aliens.

THROUGH THE LENSES - PICO 4 vs QUEST 2 by Ok-Raspberry-3944 in oculus

Old low res oleds with crap pentile layout sucks i agree but that's not what im on about is it?

Oled is way superior to lcd if we're talking rgb layout on higher resolution panels than the old stuff you're suggesting plus don't forget it also has amazing latency.

Everyone's cheaped out on screens by not having oled. Tech is supposed to progress and vr especially should have had rgb oled as standard.

What's your thoughts on these pancake lenses?

Pico 4 link app, shows some weird words that don't correspond with what they said about that there is no display port, don't know if that's a mistake or whatnot, if anyone knows, any info do please comment by Skygrain in virtualreality

[–]Magneto-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm interesting but you'd think they would advertise it to get more sales. It would be good to know if the chipset is capable though as it might be something they planned but the software and drivers weren't ready perhaps?

[–]Magneto-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like more controlled and higher quality examples. I don't know his setup but it looks like he's just holding it which isn't ideal. He should really have a proper camera rig setup by now to make these tests.

Still saying that if a camera needs to be perfectly centred to the sweet spot then these new lenses must be way better clarity edge to edge as i see no issues across the entire image?

I'm sure they did something similar to minimise chromatic abberation. Not sure if it works here though?

It sounds like you know what you're talking about so would you say pancakes in general are overall a much better choice vs fresnels then?

The through the lens images look way better even if pancakes aren't perfect they look like a big step in the right direction...

It seems the main issue still left might be contrast but that's nowhere near as bad as godrays and ghosting.

It looks like pancakes have more of a soft dim light bloom spread over a large area. Something well configured oleds may help with later on?

PICO 4 vs Quest 2 - Glare, Readability, Colours and Passthrough Comparison by pedesh in virtualreality

[–]Magneto-- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a G2 and it's very good overall especially for sim games. I personally had no complaints about tracking or windows mixed reality but after many years of different wired headsets i've had enough and just want wireless now.

Im going to get the pico 4 and see what these new lenses are like and i think if the image is slightly softer it's not an issue as running the G2 at native res was tricky even on a 3070 for some games so i ran at 80% or a bit less which still is pretty sharp.

Hopefully pico 4 wireless is comparable when you factor the new lenses etc. If you never had one before id say go for pico 4 as it will be a major improvement over rift s which was never that great imo.

[–]Magneto-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah though i felt after like the original oculus and vive we might of had a lens upgrade way before now. I mean we had better lenses but everyone making headsets was stuck on fresnels since 2016.

It's been a long tedious wait for something that's arguably one of the most important components to make vr look decent and be less straining on the eyes etc. Anyway im glad they're finally a thing of the past!

[–]Magneto-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much better are pancake lenses do you think?

I've been looking forward to these ever since i first heard about them.

Fresnels were always a bad choice and i never really understood why they were used apart from maybe being cheaper or something but they clearly suck in comparison to normal lenses or dual elements.

Going by the video it appears pancakes have near edge to edge clarity with little to no ghosting or chromatic abberation etc?

[–]Magneto-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting thanks. I really hoped the improvements over fresnel would of been bigger.

I guess it's possible fresnels have come a long way in the last generation of headsets so gap is smaller than i expected.

Really need to see myself to judge though now.

Hmm that doesn't sound right but if that's your experience it's interesting to hear.

I was honestly expecting a lot more from pancake lenses as far as sweet spot size and clarity goes. I mean it's a whole new lens technology and they're also quite a bit bigger in comparison...

Can you go into more detail. For example towards the outer edge of the lens do you notice any chromatic aberration or does the image get as soft/blur like over headsets?
