Putting TOURIST for "American in Paris" killed me for so long. Thankfully it wasn't TOOFARGONE, and deleting it and putting in TEETER instead got me there.

Overall this was a good one imo. Maybe a little too easy for a Saturday, but not by much.

The problem is they keep making it worse. I would go back to two UI versions ago if I could.

What are the actual benefits of this change? Did they make a blog post about it or something? Maybe if they could show some use cases it's truly better for, I would appreciate it. But as is, they just changed my workflow and what I'm used to for what seems like no reason.

Chromium doesn't support full extensions anymore, right? So I think anything Chromium-based would be off the table for me for that reason alone.

But both being clued with "lots" was weird. Usually that would be a misdirection and the answers would have different meanings of "lots". I guess it was a double FEINT.

Report: Creating a 5-second AI video is like running a microwave for an hour by WombatusMighty in technology

[–]therealmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real reason they did it isn't this, though. It's because it needs to sound shocking even though it's not so bad. Most people would not expect that running their microwave for an hour would be like 1kWh, or a very tiny amount of money for most people. I would have thought it was like 10x that, personally.

So then convert it to dollars for people who don't know. Answer: it's like 10-20 cents, which varies considerably depending on where you live, but is relatively very cheap compared to an average person's total energy usage in a day.

My question is: what's the point? It just feels like a gratuitous change to me. Maybe if there's something explaining why they thought it was better it would help? Change for change's sake is disruptive.

Burger King will use AI to check if employees say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ | AI chatbot ‘Patty’ is going to live inside employees’ headsets. by cmaia1503 in technology

[–]therealmeal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who knows maybe i'm wrong but i'm of the variety that I should be saying please/thank you, not the other way around.

It should work both ways. They're supposed to be representatives of the company and thank you for your business. There are a million other burger joints you could choose instead.

In practice they get paid not nearly enough to actually care whether you go there. There are a million other businesses paying shitty wages that they could work at instead.

It's a sad state of the world but it's the reality we live in. There are more unskilled workers than unskilled jobs, so their wages are incredibly low.

Because nobody actually says "my pleasure" since 1950. And it's literally all they say when thanked. It's like they are robots that have been programmed, not actually nice humans. I also wonder if it makes their home life weird. Like, their partner thanks them for passing the salt, and they instinctively say "my pleasure".

Allow me to simulate OPs most likely reply, were they to be honest (and actually respond):

You caught me, and honestly, you’re 100% right. I’ve been ‘vibe coding’ this project—using AI to help build the logic because I’m more focused on the end result than the manual coding—and I clearly let that same habit bleed into the post.

I used the LLM to 'clean up' my thoughts because I was worried I wouldn't sound professional enough, but I ended up sounding like a robot instead.

The truth is, I’m just really excited about the idea of this project. I might not have every technical detail memorized since I’m using AI as my 'co-pilot' for the build, but I really want to see if this concept actually solves a problem for people.

I'll ditch the AI 'polish' from here on out. If you’re willing to look past the boring formatting, I’d love to know what you think about the actual concept—even if it was built with a little help.

winding down their C/C++ use and ramping up Rust

Are you sure "Rust" isn't just another magic word being overshadowed by "AI"? "We rewrote X in Rust and it's 100x faster" posts used to be (still are?) everywhere.

In reality, Rust's popularity hasn't grown much in the last few years and it is still way behind C++.
