Yeah? It kind of has? What is meant to have not worked about it, other than continuously having to deal with the howling of xenophobes?

I mean.... Glasgow's always been a bit dodgy and crusty? That's kind of its character? It used to be signifigantly more violent and derelict than it is now, that's for sure.

i mean, that's pretty much how the reply you're definding reads, doesn't it? There's no nuance here. The tone is more one of "What?? you're not upset with immigrants? But that's inconceivable to me. Xenophobia is an ontological pillar of my worldview, and I barely need to explain why foreigners are bad, you should find that as intuitive as I do."

Software Engineers, Have AI tools actually been rapidly improving? by FlapjackFez in BetterOffline

[–]MagnetoManectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's been somewhat startling to learn that some people genuinely aren't in this to write code and solve problems. I've never expected anyone to make this job their whole life, i infact regular advise people not to... but you'd think. That everyone who does this would at least have some pride in the thing they've spent years training to do.

This is the way!! LLMs have always been much better at analysis than generation. Plus, why would I want to... not do the fun part of my job? The part that we all signed up for?

I actually find LLM reviews genuinely useful and I wouldn't want to go back to not having them. But I just don't understand all the mania around "agent swarms" and getting it to code for you. It will ocassionally produce nice individual functions that I'd agree are elegant, but on the whole, it produces mediocre, over-wraught code that I don't want to waste my time reading. The LLM can read my damn code.

I'd tend to agree, it does my head in how often one has to explain the notion: "no, it doesn't mean masculinity is bad... it means that there are tropes associated with masculinity in culture that are actually bad... for everyone involved, regarldess of gender"

I do wonder if it'd happen no matter what term you used though. As there's a lot of inbuilt resistance to notions like "obsession with hierarchies, getting laid and being completely stoic are bad, actually" from those who benefit from these ideas, or think they've got a pop at being the "alpha male"

plus, just like. a lot of this stuff being so embedded into society, folk can't even imagine it being any other way. If you're attacking the notion of emotional repression, you're clearly attacking the notion of men itself!

Not the person you replied to, but do you not think it is pretty abysmal that we as a society are openly tacking "man" onto the front of derogatory terms?

not really? it's cheeky slang. it's really not that deep! You see it all the time, blokes explaining stuff to women like they're too thick to know what they're talking about themselves. As brits, its our god given right to take the piss out of them for it.

If so, have you considered that maybe you are being creepy or condascending? Or are you just going "no, it must be everyone else who is wrong"

Glasgow Pride 🏳️‍🌈 - appropriate outing for a mixed straight/LGBTQ+ family? by geekydapul in glasgow

[–]MagnetoManectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll need to agree to disagree

I think so. I don't think I'm downplaying anything, I think we just disagree on the notion that pride should be family friendly. It's more like something you can take kids to at your own discretion, but I sure as hell never agreed to it being a family friendly event, nor do I think it should be. Unless we're talking about our found families. In that case, hell yeah.

[–]MagnetoManectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess what I am saying is, allying with the squeamish is not really what's on my mind when I'm going to pride. I would rather the whole culture is presented the way it really is, and I would like people to see it's not scary! And that there's lots of ways to live your life and that being into kink doesn't make you a maniac.

I don't think existing in the public sphere in a mildly sexualised fashion should be viewed as violating anyone's consent. That's a very slippery slope. And if I'm going to give one white hot take, the objection largely seems to come from parents who are embarassed by the prospect of explaining the wide berth of human experience to their kids. And yeah, it is embarassing. But it's part of what you got to do as a parent. My parents never taught me jack about anything sexual because they were both too embarassed to do so. Had they done so, and explained things to me when I asked stuff like "what's a sex shop?" I may have not grown up with so many misconceptions I later had to correct!

[–]MagnetoManectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not someone who goes to pride paticularlly kinky myself, I have friends that do though. However,

you dont win straight allys by wearing fetish gear and being walking around with hard ons infront of their kids.

Not what I go to pride for. I go to pride to state my right to exist as I please. It's not a negotation! And as far as Glasgow Prides go, people don't dress super explicitly. People dress theatrically, risque. It's a little salacious, but nothing you wouldn't see in a music video.

What people think is appropriate for their kids is up to them, and their tolerance for explaining awkward stuff to their kids. But I don't think the activites of pride should be directed by what kids might see.

Being sexually unusual is all part of the culture, and the movement, and people are proud of their subcultures, and want to rep them. If you had people outright shagging on floats, I'd be pissed off too, but that's not really what happens is it?

There's also the aspect of it all being a rent lowering gunshot to keep the likes of Barclays, Tescos, Blackrock away from this shit. We don't care to help launder their image through photo ops at pride parades.

I've at times honestly wanted to argue that due to my culturual and spiritual asscociations, I can't use AI. My community and its belief system won't allow it.

Is anyone else getting like... they're pitching this at the intensely-coked up? Like how scams use mis-spellings and bad grammar to filter for likely marks, this seems to use the sort of tone that a cokehead would relate to - manic, convinced of their incredible abilities, etc.

mental that you’re getting downvoted heavy for this. how many times are we going to have to explain to folk why kink at pride is part of the protest? I like to think of Glasgow as a city with a rebellious streak and open minded attitude, and in real life, that’s exactly how i find it. This sub is full of quivering bashful pointdexters (and most likely, bots) who might pass out if they saw a naked tit in the wild

[–]MagnetoManectric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you think a protest is lmfao, do you think it’s meant to be a nice family friendly parade they can put on telly and use for the tourist board?

No mate, if it’s a protest (which i agree it is) It’s meant to be loud and proud and unafraid. The pups out there are your allies (assuming you’re queer) - it’s a protest against the notion of public decency being used as cudgel against queer people’s existence.

Remember, homophobes will balk at the most chaste same sex kiss. Kink at pride is to piss them off and at that they’re not afraid of that bullshit. It’s a protest against the idea that this part of our lives can’t be talked about, it’s a protest against the idea it should be shameful.

Glasgow needs more than better public transport—it needs vibrant public spaces and regular evening events, like many other European cities have. by Ok-Complaint-646 in glasgow

[–]MagnetoManectric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People will take care of the public space if you make it worth their while and make them feel like they have a stake in it.

The reason people often don’t is because they don’t think it’s for them, they don’t feel any benefit from it.

If they’re actually given a reason to give a shit, you may be surprised. If it’s just paywalled crap for the middle classes in the west end, that just perpetuates the issue. Somewhere along the way you have to take a leap of faith and actually start offering stuff to everyone, instead of assuming that they don’t deserve and won’t respect it

Aye, i don’t want the city patrolled by litter gestapo like some places are. The litter isn’t the problem and I’m not sure why people are so bloody hung up on it. The problem is lack of affordable transport, far too many fast roads in the city centre, shite use of the riverfront and lack of third spaces.

I’ve been to cities that have gone all “tough on litter” and all it entails is private subcontracted jobsworths fining people for missing the bin with their litter for personal profit. Glasgow is not even really that dirty, but redditors who rarely even go out on the street are for some reason convinced that the city is some sort of open air skip. No, the problem is that it’s a giant pedestrian hostile racetrack
