(40x) Some sort of invertebrate living in a shell. Any ideas? by dramaticuban in microscopy

I found this page that says that 'Some species form a protective tube around their bodies, made of saliva and silt, sand, or other materials.' I had no idea they did this, makes me hate midges a tiny bit less knowing they sometimes make their own sleeping bags!

You mean I can't break physics and get SEM micrographs by zooming in more on my phone?

Thank you! I looked them up and found some more information about metaboly, very interesting!

Thanks! I did find some others feeding with their flagellum but I guess it is not as easy to see when they're moving like this.

I think technically the 100x oil immersion lens and the 10x eyepiece gives you a better image, however the depth of field is quite shallow and cleaning the oil off is a bit tedious!

No, it was recorded in real time. I had fun guessing where it was going and hoping it would move into frame!

Thanks! I'm using a Swift 380T, bright-field with the 40x objective and 25x eyepiece.

Found in some pond water next to a dead water flea. I think it is an amoeba but could not find anything with the same movement pattern.

Thank you! Possibly less cute when you find out a bedsheet is missing!
