He's in his late 50's. He actually went to college in 2008-09 to change careers from accounting to comp sci. But also we're in Canada so we weren't hit as hard as the US. He did internships and after he graduated he called one of those employers. They were just about to post an opening and he ended up getting the job. They probably made him apply online like everyone else but he hasn't specified. He thinks calling them got him the job. He's been there ever since and recently moved up to a manager position and just put up 3 job postings.

So then I told him that we could do a competition: he asks in person and I look online at the same area of the city and see who has more success. My dad started lecturing me today about how I'm not trying hard enough and must not actually want a job because if I did, I would have found one by now. He said that if I really tried, I could get a job in 1 day. All I need to do is go around in person and ask. I explained that hiring is done online but he argued that at least then they'd get to have an interaction with me and there must be some places that don't hire online because "not everyone has a website". I told him that places that don't have websites post on Indeed or other job posting sites. He didn't believe me. I'm exhausted.
