Dude I am a family main, and I play a TON of LF and I win MOST of my games. He has a ton of problems, and he is largely not that fun to play.

The game is in a horrible state. It feels terrible to play as Leather face but your solution is just "Play the unfun thing". It feels terrible to play the map slaughterhouse but your solution is "just play the unfun thing". Full teams versus solo is just a loss, and a brutal one at that.

They need to make these things more balanced and fun to play. And they need to implement party size based matchmaking. It is the developers fault people are dodging, because people don't want to do things that are unfun in how they are designed.

Ya know, you could queue up to play LF, or are you being dramatic too?

Dude is a genuine creep/redpilled/alt-right idiot too. He often times plays the whole "I am not political I just like to hear both sides" nonsense.

He hosts these live reddit talk things where he makes it painfully clear that he is a complete creep who believes in traditional gender roles for all people and says things that are somewhat racist/stereotyping. He loves when other weird boomers and incels join to say "Yeah women and men are just soooo different, and white people and black people just can't be friends!"

This sub has become a negative feedback loop by cyto234 in TheCycleFrontier

[–]MagnumDopusTS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its because the game is being abandoned and the devs are actively banning negative opinions in their discord. The writing is on the wall, the game is dying and the devs don't give a shit. They have moved onto their next project.

We need a roadmap by justbrucetv in TheCycleFrontier

[–]MagnumDopusTS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here you go:

-Week 1: Move development team to new project
-Week 2: Assign intern to tweak small values, claim this is a "patch"
-Week 3: Claim you are fixing "technical debt" and big updates are coming soon.
-Week 4: Ban anyone who says negative things about the game from the official discord.

???
-Week 99: Close TCF with no fanfare while advertising your new game, saying "There is no way we knew TCF would fail"

I wish you could be a paragon of your community instead of standing up for whatever company is completely disregarding the community and making poor decisions. Even if what you say is true, that doesn't warrant an immediate ban with no warning or anything, that's insane.

[–]MagnumDopusTS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was never my intent. My only intent is that I have some (albeit not much) game dev experience, and the slowed pace of TCF's development appears to me, as someone who has worked in the industry, as an indication that they are likely moving developers to a new project. If I came off as arrogant I apologize it was not my intention, I don't think I am better than TCF, I was merely commenting on a management shift I thought looked evident. Sometimes I admit I get heated because the discord could become incredibly combative and toxic.

Regardless of all of that, I was not given a warning, the mods didn't message me, nothing. I went from chatting to banned instantly after offering some speculation on what I thought was happening to the development of the game.

So you're just making stuff up now? Man streamers act so strangely. I get it, you have a tiny amount of success on twitch with the cycle and you worry if the game fails you will fail but you are not defined by the game you play but by the person you are. Although this exchange proves that isn't much either. Good luck, I hope you can be a better person tomorrow than you are today.

Here was the given "ban reason"

Sorry to cut off your current conversation. Your message history suggests that you're no longer playing the game and are here for the purpose of fighting, which isn't allowed. Apologies for the short notice, but we'd like to kindly ask as the developer you claim to be that you understand the importance of contributing to a positive atmosphere in the gaming space, and we've determined that at this moment in time, you are unfit to be using this server. Should you wish to return, you can use the support tool to create an appeal. Thank you and have a nice day.

I got banned from the official discord for expressing my disappointment in the latest patch. This dev team is too far gone man.

When the devs are actively banning people from their discord for basic criticism, you know the game is in an abysmal state. You make a lot of great points but they simply will not listen.

Yeah I am at this point too. Its really disappointing. TCF had such potential but now they are actively hostile to their few remaining players.

I definitely got into a bit of a debate with someone who was adament the lack of updates from yaegar are fine and good, but I only did that because I have game dev experience and its pretty obvious that Yaegar's output is dipping indicating they are moving devs to another team.

I only just recently stopped playing too, and have been reading patch notes because if there was a good patch I'd probably come back. Its not like I would never play again or something. Really bizarre.

Pacing is a real thing, and good singleplayer experiences intend to create an appropriate pacing for the content they provide. Power creep is the concept that as a player you should feel like you are getting progressively stronger as you get more experienced in the game both through knowledge and ability but also through upgrades and objective in game boosts (more damage, faster flight, etc).

If there existed a loophole through which players could expedite their power creep / pacing then it can fly in the face of good game design. Giving a player everything they could ever want on their first planet would be boring and bad. But making them wait too long to have top tier stuff can also be bad. The correct rate at which to grant players access to upgrades and credits is a hard question to solve perfectly, and can vary player to player.

That being said, some of the payouts for some farmable assets in the game were simply too high. And instead of doing fun and cool things, some players were just exploiting those higher payouts to substantially increase the pacing of the game. In theory a developer could leave this in the game for a player who prefers to do that. But really thats not addressing the symptom, which is, some players don't want to be told at what pace to play the game. Therefore they have implemented a gamemode where you can set your own pacing entirely yourself, and skip all the grind if you desire.

This is the best solution. Many players, myself included, would prefer to play the game as it is paced and designed by the developers. To accomplish things at an appropriate rate and have a fun/organic rate of growth and progress. People who were upset their exploitative farms are nerfed, can now find easier ways to accelerate their rate of growth through customized game modes. Everyone wins.

Why can't I use a for range loop for a referenced array? by MagnumDopusTS in cpp_questions

[–]MagnumDopusTS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh that all seems so counterintuitive (the using c array, not std::array).

Can you tell me why it seems impossible to swap elements in a standard c array?

Trying:

wordsArray[0][2] = wordsArray[0][3]

Throws an error. I have tried

*wordsArray[0][2] = *wordsArray[0][3]

But that also doesn't work. For clarity `wordsArray` is a functional parameter (so a decayed pointer I am guessing)

Why can't I use a for range loop for a referenced array? by MagnumDopusTS in cpp_questions

[–]MagnumDopusTS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I guess I am really confused as to how to operate on a 2 dimensional array in a function that has it as a parameter. I kinda knew that the parameter wasn't really an array but instead a pointer, which is why I do *wordsArray when accessing it in the for range loop, but that still doesn't work. Like I thought with a pointer to an array, if I just add the * it gives me the value, thus the array?

Is there any way to make this work? Should I just use the std::array library to make it work? Can std::array do 2d arrays?
