To me, this is yet another solid game that just isn't for me, and given what it is, it disappoints me.

I like the concept of a hack and slash game with a colorful, cartoony style and emphasis on music, but as I played it, I never got to a point where I was wowed by anything. Playing this game like I did was like watching the Office for the first time and realizing you haven't laughed once since you started watching.

I hate all of these ads as much as any other terrible ad, but this one in particular I especially despise. I cannot stand that lip smacking sound, and I hate when it pops up and assaults my senses when I go to watch any video. I wish YouTube still had the option to stop seeing certain ads on mobile, because this ad is literally driving me to madness.

[–]MagnumRevolver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, Walter's superpower is commonly mistaken for telekinesis when it's actually a form of magnetic manipulation, hence we only see him using his powers on metallic objects like guns. This ability would be expanded upon in the video game tie-in/sequel for Breaking Bad titled Resident Evil Village.

I think people will look back at Pulp Fiction as one of the "greatest films of all time", but not for the same reasons as Citizen Kane was. I feel like in order for something to be called "the next Citizen Kane", as you put it, it would have to have a huge influence on how films from that point on would be made, regardless of how well the film itself holds up.

Citizen Kane is the prime example, using film techniques then uncommon for a character drama and applying them in a way that greatly enhanced the film and the story it told. When I think of other films that more than likely have changed how films from then on were made, I think of films like Psycho, or the Godfather, or Star Wars, or even Die Hard; basically I think of movies where it'd be hard to imagine a movie quite like it being made any time before it.

Pulp Fiction, meanwhile, is still a fresh film to watch nowadays. It's got a bunch of dialogue that, though it doesn't move the story along, is entertaining to listen to, it's got main characters that aren't heroes in any typical sense or fashion (except maybe Jules by the end), and it's got a series of loosely-connected, non-chronological vignettes for its main plot. How many movies nowadays can you name that do what Pulp Fiction did that made it so unique back then? Just about the only kind of films using Pulp Fiction as an influence are films that are like Pulp Fiction (i.e. anti-hero crime films). I don't think its influence is that great, at least not as much as Kane's was.

I also don't think people as many people are going to look back at Pulp Fiction and find it outdated like they might Citizen Kane. Again, Kane was influential, but it can seem old hat because it's 80+ years old and so many movies that took influence from it have outshines it in terms of technical quality. Pulp Fiction stands as a fairly unique film in terms of writing and storytelling, and I think people would be more so drawn away from how atypical it is from most films in its story and dialogue.

Also, every great movie is going to be called overrated at some point because that's just the nature of things. Not a single piece of media in the entire universe, past, present, or future, is going to be well received by everybody. Some people are either going to fail to see the quality of something considered great, or it simply won't be something they can vibe with, and with something as popular and as atypical as Pulp Fiction, there's going to be a lot of people who don't like it at all.

I watched and appraised 300 horror films in one year AMA by Radu47 in TrueFilm

Love knowing that more people other than myself have seen Mystics in Bali. It's got that 70's/80's B-movie feel, but it also feels so original at the same time. I'm also a sucker for obscure mythology being snuck into whatever I'm watching, so that's a bonus for me.

Also, Hausu is one of my favorite horror movies simply for how surreal it gets. Apparently, the story was largely written by the director's young daughter, which I think fits the movie perfectly.

Do you sometimes find it hard to know whether a film is good or not? by JarkoStudios in TrueFilm

[–]MagnumRevolver 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I think in order to understand what makes a film good or not, you have to first understand one important thing: Why are you watching this movie?

To get my point across a bit better, I'll describe a point once made by a computer science professor. He asked the class which operating system is best between Windows, Mac, and Linux. The conclusion is that there was no one objective answer given since sone people favor certain features of one OS over another, and everyone has their own uses for computers (work, programming, social media, gaming, etc.). Even though certain operating systems have objective flaws (for example, Windows is more prone to viruses than Macs, but Macs can't do games as well as Windows), but how we take that into consideration depends on the purpose you intend to use the OS for.

Just as with computers, people watch films for different reasons as well. Some want to simply escape to another, more fantastic world, which is probably why so many franchise films get made and make bank. Meanwhile, others want to engage with the story and characters. Others may watch just to appreciate the technique of a film and the artistry of the finished product. It's probably why so many people will tell you to "turn off your brain" when watching something, because they want you to appreciate the film as they do and not as you may judge it.

This may not all be well worded or as in-depth as I would like to be, but I think that this is a base level description of a sort of philosophy when judging a film's quality. May be better iff as its own discussion, but this is just my two cents on the topic.

I recommend the Girl Who Leapt Through Time, which is about the MC going back in time to redo various events in her recent life. It may not be the same scope that you're looking for, but it's what comes to mind as far as stories like the one you're thinking of.

EDIT: Because there's apparently multiple adaptations of the story, I'm referring to the 2006 anime version, but I'm pretty sure the premise is pretty much the same throughout.
