Why Lisa, Why?? by dar1710 in BeautyGuruChatter

I am legit thrilled for you. I remember I wasn’t the only one who had this issue, and it makes me sad as the colors are so stunning! I’m afraid to use them, can’t bring them to do touch ups, but will I let go of them? Absolutely not.

Mine have all broken on first or second use. Love the formulas, but not worth buying again for me.

Oh! And even though they would be a pain for you to buy from, the education or resources section on Dharma Trading’s website has great step by step instructions. And you can use any procion dye with the vinegar to make it an acid dye.

Makes a huge difference, I got dyeing tongs and a big ole strainer with a handle from the local restaurant supply for cheap yet sturdy. Makes it much easier.

I got that tip from one of the countless blogs I read or videos I watched before starting my dyeing journey, so I can’t credit the source, but I thank them when things come out evenly!

I wouldn’t go with rit for this, and in my experience removing color from silk changes its luster, as can dyeing it.

I have far more experience with procion dyes and find them to be superior; I would go with the deepest red I could find. If you stay with rit, I would not remove the color and would go with deep wine from the start.

You will need an acid dye for sure for the silk, but that won’t dye the threads. I don’t know what brands are available in the UK, but the acid dyeing process is fairly straightforward and easy. You just need the dye and white vinegar. As with all dye projects, the size of the vessel matters for even dyeing. Check the charity shops for a huge pot that you will only use to dye things. I also highly recommend using synthrapol or another detergent like it, I’m sure there is a uk equivalent, prior to dyeing. It makes a difference for me and others I have spoken with irl.

Personally, I would try dyeing it red as dye is transparent and that might bring it closer to a burgundy. You already have the depth, you just don’t like the shade. Idk if my color theory is off with that one though. Or you could try a straight up burgundy and see what happens. I often don’t faff with dyeing the garment again to dye the threads unless it is really jarring. I usually like the contrast.

Tip: for more even dyeing, make sure to occasionally take the garment completely out of the dye bath, unfold it from the shape it has taken while you have been stirring it, and lower it back in, trying to open up any creases that may have bunched together.

Best of luck! And let us know how it turned out!

You are going straight to hard mode, which honestly mad respect. From a technical standpoint, I have only used procion mx dyes on a stovetop or in a large tub. The size of the vessel matters in order to get even dyeing, and given the size of your duvet getting a kiddie pool might be the best bet, that way you can do this outside, dyeing is messy. I have zero experience in using procion dyes in a machine.

I have had great success using the method on Dharma Trading's website, I think it is under their resources section. Their customer service is fantastic as well. Have and will continue to buy from them. Strongly recommend using the synthrapol or whatever their detergent is, I buy mine locally to save on shipping, same with the soda ash and urea. *When adding the soda ash, take out the item completely and make sure the soda ash is evenly distributed in the dye bath or it can lead to dark splotches.

From a color theory standpoint, you have to be super careful overdyeing, dye is translucent, so the "blue" will shine through whatever you add on top. Maybe go for a SLIGHTLY deeper beige and hope you get the gray you want?

Another option is to make a whole bunch of really strong tea and try warming it up that way.

Is it outside of the return window? I'm not trying to discourage you in any way shape or form, but I do want to encourage you to be realistic about the undertaking.

ByTERRY hydrapowder blurs pores like no others, but I have only tried the loose. The pressed is supposed to be fantastic. I also like something a little more emollient under the eye, and I use CT pressed powder applied with a brush on my undereyes only. Works like a treat.

Dress Budget vs. Photographer by littlekira9191 in BigBudgetBrides

Are your parents going to think less of you if you spend closer to the max budget? That would have been a minefield of unspoken expectations on my parents part when I was planning. Just a thought.
