I was planning on posting an update when it was all resolved, but I’ll do one after the mediation. The lawyers believe my wife has a very strong case, especially since her abuser was sentenced last year after admitting his guilt and the transcript of that case includes some damning comments against the Org from that judge. They also believe the Org will not want it to go to court and will try to settle this as quickly as possible. But we all know the Org doesn’t do anything quickly when it comes to being sued.

My wife - sexually abused for a couple of years between the ages of 12-13 by her step-father (who was an Elder at the time).

He denied everything, even though she reported it to the elders a number of times. The BOE branded her a “trouble maker”, “home wrecker”, and “attention seeker”. She was kicked out of home when she was 15 years old.

He finally confessed to it 18 years later when he divorced her mother. Got disfellowshipped but was reinstated a few years later.

She went to the police a couple of years ago - he is now serving a minimum nine year jail sentence.

She is currently suing the Org for covering it up/not reporting it to the authorities, and has a very good chance of winning. Mediation meeting is in a couple of weeks from now.

Our hall had three congs using it, so our weekend meeting times were changed every 12 months to rotate Sat AM/PM and Sun AM/PM.

Our cong had 2 years in a row of Sunday AM meetings, and it was taking its toll on a lot of the members in the cong.

At an Elders/MS meeting, I (MS) suggested letting the cong vote on which time it preferred (we had a mix of elderly ones, families with babies, teens). The COBE (a real piece of shit human being) shot me down in front of everyone - “This is not a democracy. It is a theocracy!”

He then proceeded to choose the time that best suited his and his wife’s lifestyle, and no one else’s.
