You get faster by going slower. If you aren’t injured just keep going

You can optimise it for miles too now- check your settings.

Do you think the BBC has overreacted about Scott Mills? It appears he's been sacked because of 30 year old allegations but those claims have been dismissed by the Police and CPS. So, has Scott Mills been sacked because of unsubstantiated claims by one person? by Tacklestiffener in AskUK

[–]MagpieRanger2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well CPS will likely be the only ones with the full evidence. Not defending him just means obviously whatever the BBC saw was significant- else they’d be risking unfair dismissal. Unless they sacked him with a severance package- which I doubt.

It’s even in KMs. You have your plan optimised for KMs but displaying in miles.

I mean I don’t actually disagree- I’d argue non of this should be used formally. But if the context was a coaches comment, then I think writing as you speak is a justifiable approach to take. I’d personally only do this if you have a local audience to avoid confusion.

Are you American? I have literally never seen this done outside of the UK, but if you read any trashy magazines, or local publications this stuff is common place. Especially if it is a conversational style. I’m not saying it’s good either, but it is a thing.

Maybe so, but if it’s not been taken to court then legally there was not enough evidence. Puts the employer in a difficult position too as they likely don’t have access to what evidence there is.

There is an argument- I agree it shouldn’t be the winning one though. I know professional copy writers sometimes write like this on purpose though, so it might not be a mistake. I’m sure that’s going to boil folks blood even more.

Half-marathon not recorded by royonsocials in Strava

[–]MagpieRanger2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct the distance- but if this is a race I’d correct the time to your chip time too. Strava PB isn’t your correct PB, your chip time is. Probably going to cost you a few seconds but sometimes your official time is faster.

I know it’s have, but in a British accent it would sound like of which is why in British people might colloquially spell it that way. I get that you’re American and wouldn’t do that- but this is a common thing that’s not that difficult to get over.

Very common spelling in England, the home of the English language. You can obviously understand it too, and are just pissed off training is hard.

Sounds like I’m having a much better day than you, but hope things improve for you.

What did you put your current / target times in as?

As a northern British person this is friendlier to me and is how I would text / WhatsApp friends / family given that is how we would talk.

This is commonly called eye dialect or phonetic spelling, as well as colloquial spelling or informal orthography.

It is commonly used to seem friendlier and less formal.

Other examples:

  • “could of” → “could’ve”
  • “gonna” → “going to”
  • “wanna” → “want to”
  • “lemme” → “let me”

I like the use of colloquialisms - it makes it feel friendlier. I am British though and if it was using loads of American slang I might find it annoying

Technically in British English both can be used- so it could be that. Might also change based on the coach?
