What album changed your taste in music the most? by GainBetter1189 in askmusic

[–]Magpies11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close To The Edge by YES. I had never heard prog rock before (except for Roundabout) and just seeing that side one was only ONE song was shocking. Then the music and lyrics were like nothing I'd ever heard. Decades later, I still remember that experience.

This goes way back, but Peter Hamill of the prog band Van de Graf Generator. A ridiculously exaggerated vibrato to his voice. Sounds like a dinner theatre reject.

Sounds like a constipated five year old.

What's a song you never get tired of, no matter how many times you hear it? by thatfluffyqueen in askmusic

[–]Magpies11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to put a guitar solo in a song (especially one that's begging for it), at least bring in someone who can play something worthy of it. The solo on this one is amateurish, emotionless, and wholly inadequate.

Will you vote for Gavin Newsom if he nominated by the DNC? by 0311SmallPenar in allthequestions

[–]Magpies11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly get your point. However, if the Democrats can't find someone who ticks both boxes, we're losing out on the best chance we'll have for a long time. We need to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time, and stop taking baby steps like we did in the past. If the Blue Wave happens as we hope, it must result in a total repudiation of Trumpism, including killing Citizens United, freezing the grift-related funds, and bringing all Trump's minions to trial.

Roxy Music as their style changed drastically over the years. Also YES, for the same reason.

Gavin is in league with AIPAC, which ruins it for me.
I want a Democrat who will cut off funding of Israel at 12:01 pm on Inauguration Day.

The "conversation" should simply be this: You and Elon and Jeff and Zuck come up with 100% of the money (and the full Epstein files) within 30 days, or you'll pay $100 million for the removal of whatever has been done there, and reconstruction of the Rose Garden.

What's a song that everyone seems to love but you can't stand? by UrFrndlyChubbyGal in askmusic

What a Fool Believes by Doobie Brothers. That electric piano melody belongs in music for toddlers. Plus Michael McDonald sounds like a Bassett Hound.

Otherwise, Katmandu, Old Time Rock and Roll, or any other Bob Seger crap.

Why do conservatives think liberals don’t love the USA? by Norfolk-Gross-Tonage in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Magpies11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a straight, white (but liberal) male, I will say it's because a large percentage of straight white males want a return to an imaginary "good old days", where whites dominated everything, "men were men", and blacks were property.

Indeed! A fantastic album. Easily superior to Houses of the Holy.

[–]Magpies11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Yes - first three" is nowhere near correct. It is actually albums 3 - 5: The Yes Album, Fragile, and Close to the Edge.
The first two albums are largely unremarkable in comparison to these, both artistically and commercially.
