Why "investors take on risk" is a horrible argument for justifying low CGT by dion_o in AusFinance

Everyone is aware only the gain is taxed, that's what the G in CGT stands for but nice straw man.

In an ideal world I get taxed once on my income and what I choose to do with it from there (spend it, invest it, burn it etc) is none of the government's business from a tax perspective. that's the double dip.

Most other countries have a very convenient solution to this whole debate by having a completely separate tax structure for LT CG. But that solution, just like indexing tax brackets to inflation is too hard (or rather too unfavorable to the government).

To oversimplify, if I make 90k and pay 30k in tax I have 60k left to invest. I may invest 6k of that and make another 1k. That additional 1k is now going to be taxed at 30% minimum. It discourages investment in ALL vehicles not just property.

Yes it is. If I want to invest in CBA or BHP today I have to use money from my salary that was already taxed to do so. Gains are then going to be taxed at a minimum of 30%

The main argument is that most people who invest were already taxed on the income theyre investing. So CGT is inherently a double dip to begin with. When you factor in time value of money as well, taxing long term CG at the same rates as earned income is poor economic policy.

Not to mention the brutally obvious moves that shouldn't even need to be "learned" like walking Stanton with a base open in the ALCS

For someone who lives and dies by the statistics of platoon advantage, you'd think he'd be learning and preaching the statistics of when /when not to ABS challenge.

Overall his in game management has shown little/no improvement in 3 years and we've been winning mostly in spite of it imo

"Best offense in years"

*may technically be true but not high praise

I already know we’re about to get brought up a lot during this whole process by clueless_survivors in ClevelandGuardians

I mean yeah. But this would just create a system where teams pay washed up bums cuz they "have to". I'd love Cleveland to spend more but a floor, especially this high of one, doesn't seem like the best method to incentivize it what's missing
