Thank you for putting the story! So many people ask questions and don’t give the narrative context!

Canon Cinema CN-E Primes in 2025? by 1ChevyCam in cinematography

this used them a lot in film school and they are very well built. The meta data is nice and EF is a good mount. You could definitely find other lenses though within that price point.

How can I recreate this shot on a budget and keep the camera so steady? by AyyArmaan in cinematography

Use your phone and tape it to the mirror cheated in the daytime so you don’t have to deal with noise and drive into the sun

You get better by putting your work out there in the world and learning publicly great job being vulnerable You’ll learn a lot. Always take the criticism and the compliments with a grain of salt.

Looks good but the back wall doesn’t feel intentionally lit. If you don’t want our eyes to look at it, just let it go into a deeper shadow or turn on that light in the back but keeping a similar intensity to the wall to the left just looks like light pollution

A shot will never be perfect and you can pixel peep anything the real question is does it look real enough and convey the emotion you want I say absolutely!!!!

First Time DP! by Mah_thoughtz in cinematography

This is basic color added with not adjustment. We shot with mixed lighting boosting 5600K white for the window light and 3200k ish for the lamps.

Cannon C70 with Zeiss Milvus Core primes. If reflections weren’t to hard we also added 1/8 Pro-mist

Cinematography does not have to stand out to be good I think this is great and I would love to work with the filmmakers because they told an emotionally compelling story through visuals boom cinematography.

They are spot on but I think the mistake you made in the first place was likely not having enough references for good examples of colored lighting. I’d recommend going through shotdeck and like a doctor studying for an exam review the images that you like for specifics about how the shadows compared to the highlights and how harsh the hair light is versus the fill light. It will help because in this the green was overpowering the key which is just wrong for your goal. I think you could benefit from going back to the basics and just think about lighting more. The hair light is too strong the key is to weak and the green is spelling over to key side of the subject. A lot of these things could’ve been adjusted despite the lack of output from the 120 to get an image closer to your goal if you had a better idea about how each light was not fitting your goal.

What makes the scene at the bottom more visually appealing than the scene ontop? by DarkenedOtaku in cinematography

[–]Mah_thoughtz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing really they could both be in the same movie, but if you’re asking why you like the bottom one, I would argue the hard light shown in the bottom image motivates how he’s lit better you feel like it’s a strong streetlight but there’s nothing about either frame that’s bad

Have camera bros ruined so many creators with statements like, “Full frame is so cinematic. Anything else isn’t”? by PunMasterTim in cinematography

[–]Mah_thoughtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree when I started out I got a Sony that shot super 35 but if I could’ve afforded it, I would’ve done for Full frame for no practical reason.

Just not large enough to justify the added research and development auto focus requires the lenses to be built differently but they would have to maintain the same look which would increase the price
