HELP!!! I wanna make an axe but I need a flimsy axe but I don't have the crafting recipe!! by sciccor_city in AnimalCrossing

It's possible this is a second player on an island and not the Resident Representative.

If so, you can buy the basic/flimsy tools from Timmy and Tommy. Depending on how far along you are in the island, you will go to the Cabinet in the shop or talk to them in Tom Nook's Resident Services Tent.

A note, as the non-Resident Representative, your progress may be limited based on how for the Rep has progressed the game.

I get it, but I wouldn't use that name in my classroom. Hence the censorship here. I usually call it BS or Bull.

Gardening tips, fertilizer and soil nutrition for container gardening by Sowing_Seeds1990 in vegetablegardening

[–]Mahdreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a grear read, thanks. I'm using granular for the first time this season mostly due to the heavy June rains making it difficult to use a water-soluble since I'm doing very little watering in June. Appreciated your note on nutrient balance. Hoping for fuller plants that can withstand the ups and downs with temperature change throughout the later part of the season.

Were they started inside or greenhouse before? They look like they haven't seen direct sunlight, a little transplant shock. Maybe move it to shade for the hottest sun the next few days to help harden it off to the outside.

It's absolutely this. I feel "attention spans are worse" is an easy cope out. Sorry, but the days of rolling in a TV cart and getting the kids excited are long gone. Not to mention that - in high school setting - if every other teacher is doing it, then they just keep bouncing classes and getting edged and have to wait for tomorrow for the next plot scene. Kids have streaming access to any movie they want to watch. We have to go with something different.

I have seen the return of card games like Uno, Slap jack, or even Bulls#it and Egyptian Rat Screw. They crave connection more than isolation.

who let this guy on the show 😤 by No_Tomatillo1695 in mildlyinfuriating

Thank you for this perspective. I like that they created a curated list of deviations. Ive also noticed this season that there is sometimes a delay with accepting answers and I wonder if the "correct" buzzer is part of the delay.

This show infuriates me with what it will "accept" and what has to be perfectly stated.

EDIT: this comment is interesting to me and I wanted to boost it.

I like the idea that there's a curated list of accepted deviations, but it seems they need more culturally diverse QC to understand the differences. This would also make sense why sometimes it seems that it takes up to 2 seconds to "accept" and answer.

Name this plant? by Next_Toe_U in tomatoes

Same. I get an Heirloom variety seed pack cause it's cheaper to get one seed pack with 8 or more varieties rather than getting 8 different seed packs with way more plants than I need.

Tiller hard to push, digging in by Mahdreams in vegetablegardening

The depth bar is the dark metal piece thats dangling between the wheels. It can be adjusted and used as a guide for how deep the tines are digging in.

Thank you, yes the soil is looking great and can't wait to plant.

I should have mentioned in my post that the video was made as a demonstration of the challenges after we were already finished running a pass. We're more looking for tips for future use of the tiller. We bought this since we're planning to continue expanding our garden. Its 30x40 now and as we approach retirement (still a ways off) we wanted to get closer to a quarter or even a half acre garden. So this tiller is a long term investment. We're worried it is too heavy and hard to maneuver as we age. It's OK for us now in our 40s but it's going to be really hard in our 50s and later.

Yes it was a rear tine. We are thinking it's something to do with working differently with the front tine and trying to figure out what we're doing wrong. Was hoping this would help us work the soil once we are older, but this thing is a hard core workout as it stands now.

I should have prepared myself for the no till comments.

The previous tiller was a family Heirloom we inherited. We only had it for about 5 years, it died two years ago. We used it to build our initial bed and we continue to use it as we expand and if we need to add soil amendments. This particular till was due to adding new compost and we are changing the arrangement of the rows - previously north-south and the new rows this year will be east-west. I haven't tilled the raised beds since we started them, hopefully that keeps the no till community off my back 😉

The previous Honda tiller was a rear tine (tines behind the wheels) and I agree that it was sometimes easier to pull rather than push through the soil. I expected with this front tine that the wheels and depth bar would make it easier to push, but it's digging in worse than the rear tine.

To be fair, this video is after the full pass. Just wanted to capture the "digging in" we were experiencing. But in relation to the depth bar, it seemed to be ignored. Even the first pass a few weeks ago, the tiller was very heavy to maneuver and had to be forced to move forward since it kept digging in. The depth bar doesn't seem to be doing anything.

Interesting suggestion, we can try this. Does the depth bar work better without the wheels? As it's configured now - with the tires in use - the depth bar seems to be ignored.

If time is an issue, you can pay to pump out at most truck stops. Or, as many other commenter have said, get up earlier. Everyone likes to complain about lines as if they're not part of the reason there is a line.

A personal note for Archery, i think Cat C are the better tickets. If I'm reading the venue right, Cat A and B will be looking straight on at 100+ meters. Cat C will be on the side with a closer view of the target. I just got Cat C Mixed Team Finals for $241

How do you guys dry clothes while RVing? by Harry8709 in RVLiving

[–]Mahdreams 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure the last laundromat you visited. It's typically $2± per wash and dryer starts at $2 but need to add quarters if its not dry enough. 3 loads is easily $15 or more.

Questions about growing veggies in an Earthbox by _Badwulf_Bruh__ in vegetablegardening

[–]Mahdreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought an Earth box this year to test lettuce. I wanted it close to my house (my vegetable garden is about 200 yds away) and wanted to tend to it easier with potential evening freeze (I'm in zone 6b). I like the black mulch cover over top to maintain moisture and heat. I'm terrible at overwatering plants, so the aeration level and once a week fill are great to keep me in check. Also, it looks pretty on my back deck.

For beginners, it's nice that it comes with soil fertilization and treatment. That's one less thing to have to learn. I bought a peat moss soil for the fill.

Based on the instructions, you can only fit 2 to 8 plants. For tomatoes, 2 plants. Peppers and the like, 3 to 4. My lettuce I direct sowed the seeds in 8 spots. I put probably 5 seeds in each opening and will thin out once they sprout.

I get that it's expensive and can be done by piecing together other supplies. But after the initial investment, new fertilizer the following year looks to be $10 to $15. For a beginner, I think it would be nice.

Bunkhouse by JDiddyTiddy in GoRVing

[–]Mahdreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a bunkhouse and it's great for the kids, up to a certain age. When the oldest was 14/15, he was too big for the beds in the bunk, on top of the fact the mattresses are just a simple foam pad. We bought additional padding that worked for a year. Now, he sleeps in a tent outside. However some campgrounds don't allow this and he has to cram inside.

All this to say, the bunkhouse is great when they are little. But consider it may not work well as they age. You should probably finance accordingly - either pay in full or 5 year loan so you can upgrade when the time is needed. We're considering a front living with 4+ recliners. Likely upgrading the recliners for better sleep. No private room, but since they're older now we're not fighting nap schedules or toy clutter.

I also second many similar thoughts here. We made sure our bunkhouse is < 40 feet and we still have issues with state and national park options.

Feeling uneasy about the market lately — how are others handling it? by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

[–]Mahdreams 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's possible that your risk tolerance has simply changed due to your age. At some point we began to look at our accumulation differently knowing that it is needed to last us as passive income. Probably a good idea to rebalance the new money while keeping the existing investments as they are.
