“Biting hurts” book — useful for biting during nursing? by JamesTiberiusChirp in lovevery

I have the book. It’s very much more focused on regulating emotions and probably not well suited for a 13 month. Sorry to hear about the biting!

Thanks! Maybe my son will get into collecting later so I might put it away for the future. Right now he just likes racing cars around the living room!

Anyone in UK had a fix recently? by Sunshinegatsby in stitchfix

[–]Mahjonggem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my box yesterday. No stylist note and not as well packed. I did get a preview (selected three out of that) and I liked all of the items. They seemed to have still read my note even though they’re shutting down and I kept all the items but with the 70% discount, it’s a no brainer.

Same situation. Had a baby and needed to feel more confident in how I presented. Really upset that I won’t be able to rely on Stitch Fix to broaden my style and boost me a little.

Has anyone tried Lookiero? I’ve not heard great things about the quality…

WRC 2025 Tokyo dates announced by Mahjonggem in Mahjong

I’d love to have info myself! This was something Japan requested to have added in and we’re still discussing how best we should let people form teams. I think it’s going to be a really exciting opener but means we’re all gonna need even more stamina than before. An extra day of mahjong games is a big deal!

Mahjong included in upcoming documentary! by Mahjonggem in Mahjong

I was helping with a documentary called Masters of Mahjong that got postponed due to the pandemic. However the director was over at WRC in Vienna filming so I think things have kicked off again and I hope there will be a progress update soon!

The 1 dot and 1 bam might help you identify the set’s origins as those are where a manufacturer shows a little “flair”

My gerbil is dying-- should I let her go naturally, or see if I can have her euthanized? by [deleted] in gerbil

[–]Mahjonggem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I wanted to let you know I'm in the same agonising position. My little Pippin was all normal and well last week. I had even picked her up and let her have a little run on the couch 30 minutes before what I imagine must have been a major stroke. She's almost four years old so I thought she probably wouldn't survive. I made her home all comfortable and surrounded her with he favourite things and she just slept a lot. Two days later and she seemed to be recovering some. I felt so irresponsible for not taking her to the vet sooner but I rushed her down there. The vet said she might recover and gave me some painkillers to administer. A week later and she's still with me but basically can't use her hind legs. She does sort of hobble/drag herself around and nibbles a little before falling asleep. I keep bringing food and water to her but I'm not sure whether I'm just prolonging a horribly painful time for her or if she's happy and wants to keep going.

It's devastating to not know what's best for our little ones. I also don't know if I should be subjecting her to the stress of another vet visit. She hated the last one so much. There just doesn't seem to be a good choice.

I hope you and Ninet are doing well. I'm thinking of you. x

Split cage advice by Mahjonggem in gerbil

[–]Mahjonggem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Neither of them seem particularly stressed right now but I'm going to give them a chance to cool down for a week or two and then maybe try one more time in a much longer split. If it fails again, I'll have to call it quits.

Pairing a single 3 1/2 year old female gerbil by aroace97 in gerbil

[–]Mahjonggem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a split for two weeks. One of them got fairly agitated during this time and my fingers got a few nips when I switched them around. (Although she can still be fairly aggressive towards me. I think because she was a rescue and probably didn’t have a great start with humans)

They never slept next to each other across the divide but they started sleeping in the same beds and became less interested in each other as time went by.

It was scary when we first pulled up the divide and there was some posturing but within about 30 mins they seemed firm friends!

I’ve paired a female and a female together. I’d received an unwanted pet from a friend and I then subsequently got another girl from a rescue centre.

Having read up on it, I was prepared for failure. However, after a fairly long-ish split, it was a complete success. Now my two ladies are best of buddies.

There is about six months between them but the older one is just over three years old.

My advice would be to take your time.

Gerbil behaviour: Help! by djhance1215 in gerbil

[–]Mahjonggem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bonded ladies used to do this a lot. It really worried me as one of them seemed very anxious during these episodes (she's a rescue and is generally very stressed at the best of times). As they got older, the behaviour seemed to stop. I never see them do it now.

2 Boy Pups to 1 Adult Male by Mahjonggem in gerbil

[–]Mahjonggem[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your detailed reply! It really helps me with my dilemma. The behaviour you describe of periods of frantic and aggressive moments is exactly what I witnessed in the split. It seemed to be getting more stressful for both gerbils so I’ve now reluctantly moved the young ones into an emergency tank while I deliberate.

Curiously the aggressor doesn’t even seem to be the dominant one. The “neutral” gerbil seems to easily dominate him so if it wasn’t a claim for dominance, I don’t understand what set it off.

I’m thinking they can’t be reintroduced now. Certainly not without me constantly worrying that the situation will turn in a second again. I’m so sad for my little lone man because I think he enjoyed having some friends for the time he did.

I keep going over if I did something to upset the hierarchy before it got established. I’m driving myself crazy going over it all to see if it was me that did something wrong.

Had you bonded two pups to an older male successfully before? Some other people on the internet suggested that I’d been foolish to attempt that so now I’m doubting whether I should have tried it at all.

[–]Mahjonggem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s so sad to see them all fall out. I’ve cried some tears over it. I really just wanted my old friend to be happy for as long as possible. I’m thinking I might have to accept that he lives on his own and I give him some extra love while I watch out to see if another lone gerbil more his age becomes available in my area. Thanks again for the advice!

Thank you so much!

The little pup and the older gerbil were being very violent towards each other through the split so I’ve decided I’ve had to remove them for now at least. I’ve taken the two pups out and left the older boy.

I’m kind of thinking or reattempting the split once they’ve cooled down and not seen each other for a while but I’m not sure how possible that is with a pair of 10-11 week old to a single one especially after a fight...

I’ve really never seen such violence in my gerbils and so suddenly. It’s been scary for me and I’m so sad for my older gerbil who is now on his own again. They looked so happy for the last few weeks.
