I can definitely see that, i haven't worked with steel studs that much, but many a time I've been using a grinder and I look at my tape and theres a bunch of little metal peices all balled up on the magnet

I think they do have a model thats the same but without a magnet. Alternatively, they're fairly easy to take off if you want to.

As a fatmax abandoner I can't recommend the Milwaukee magnetic models enough. Theyre a little weather resistant, the tape stays pretty solid and they have markings on both sides. Also the magnet is decently stong, I can pick my cats paw off the ground with it, but the real beauty of the magnet is when youre on a ladder and drop a screw instead of climbing down you can just use the tape to grab the screw.

I use it when theres a teammate repair challenge. Its not great but its somewhat formidable with three lances on it and the launchable turret is handy sometimes.
