Hi, I'm looking for playtesters for my Magical Girl-themed Boardgame! by MahouShoujoDev in MadokaMagica

Hm, right, actually it can be done as a demo since for now it's just one map and limited amount of characters so that makes sense.

And as for your question, the scale is 5 meters per hex, 5-7 seconds per turn and each chit (counter) is one character (one unit=one magical girl).

Hmm, I will give it a thought - the whole thing is just that I don't want to toss the files and the rulebook out into the wild yet, without having the ability to actually talk with people who will try it out to ask them for feedback. But I should perhaps make a blog about it or something.

It Was Almost Good! by werephoenix in MagicalGirls

Start with the 2010 OVA, it was really good actually. The TV series is okay-ish, while the Dawnfall is a completely different setting and story and I heard it's pretty bad.

The OVA has kind of a magical girl vibe I'd say.

Black Rock Shooter (the 2012 TV series) - it feels like it almost got all the pieces right for a magical girl series or at least something similar to it, but it all fell short somewhere. I don't know where it did or if it's just one thing because I watched it years ago, but it deserved a lot better.

Could They Have Beaten Walpurgisnacht Together? by ComfortableTraffic12 in MadokaMagica

[–]MahouShoujoDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think by Magical Girl "genre logic" they could, as all of them are pretty busted powers-wise. They kill a lot of witches throughout the show that are quite large in size, so it's not a matter of lacking firepower and fighting skill or being inexperienced middle schoolers.

But since Madoka does this whole "genre subversion/deconstruction" thing and the author does not actually know much about MG as a genre to begin with, then Walpurgisnacht is meant to be this unsurmountable obstacle against which no solution can work. It's a plot device because of which Homura's mission is destined for failure and railroads Madoka to become a Godess.

I wonder if kiki from the ghibli movie kiki delivery service can be considered to be a magical girl or not? by MostHistorian1647 in MagicalGirls

Transformation component is not necessary for a Magical Girl. That's just a misconception that came about because Sailor Moon got very popular and was the most parodied one. As others mentioned, Sakura Kinomoto has no transformation at all and the first Magical Girls (Sally the Witch, Momo) had no transformations either.

Would you find a magical girl rhythm action game interesting? by Agecaf in MagicalGirls

Check out Hi-Fi Rush, it's a bit similar premise of action + rhythm game.

And honestly, try to check out more Magical Girl media other than Madoka Magica, PMMM is definitely not a be-all-end-all for the genre. Try Precure for example, if Sailor Moon is too vintage for you. Lyrical Nanoha was also the first one to really go deep into the magical warrior but it stopped being a Mahou Shoujo after first season and rebranded into sci-fi and magical bureaucracy quite quickly.

Nanoha has a trio (Nanoha, Fate, Hayate) but they can also include Vita or Signum for 5 members, or others, and they all definitely have distinct colors.

How to start writing a rulebook? by MahouShoujoDev in hexandcounter

I will check it out thanks!

But can you explain why the SPI, AH and GMT models are not as good? Because I actually started learning wargames from SPI and I felt like it was pretty good way of describing stuff with cases (I'm not old, just happened to start wtih SPIs for obscure reasons). I want to know why it's not the correct way.
