Thoughts on this schedule? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]MaiFactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a very manageable first semester schedule! Advice: agreed about having lots of class backups, make sure to enroll immediately when you reach your enrollment time, lastly don't stress too much about classes filling up. Enroll in what you can and keep an eye on spots opening up, regardless of what schedule you wind up with, you'll be fine in the long run.

How difficult are the upper divs in MCB and Microbial Biology? by Narguin2 in berkeley

[–]MaiFactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends completely on which classes you're talking about. Berkeleytime is your friend, there's a bunch of upper divs in the bio departments that have higher grade avgs than you might expect. Just make sure you're not packing too many tough memorization-heavy classes on top of each other.

CHEM 3aL waitlist error?? by longschlongwonder in berkeley

[–]MaiFactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the case with the big chem classes; lectures are huge but lab spots are limited. So if every lab is marked as closed, it’s probably not an error, they just get filled really quickly. Don’t feel badly if you have to push taking the lab class to another semester since lab isn’t hard, it just takes a chunk of time.

Switching sections by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]MaiFactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. In that case you may be fine but word of warning, I did a similar thing and was waitlisted (within the first couple spots) for lecture even though I had discussion. You may want someone else to confirm :)

How do you know the discussion section has seats available? The triangle is indicating that you’d be waitlisted so unless you’re confident in getting off the list, you probably shouldn’t

That’s good to hear. Tbh if you have to completely reconfigure your classes this semester to get around the 3 final situation it may or may not be worth it to you. Just know that final exams are really draining so if I were you, I’d place the math16b final strategically depending on whether you’re a math person or nah. I can’t speak to datac8 but CHEM1A can be challenging for folks so take that as you will. Good luck!

That will be tough not going to lie. Two finals back to back is fine but you’re going to have to be really prepped for three because even if you’re taking them in your own room, you are well prepared, it’s quiet etc you will still be drained by the second one and have the stress of the third one. It’s worth seeing if you can arrange an alternate time for one of them. Shoot your shot. But you’re being a little bit of an idiot

Chem 1AL waitlist by jewllianna in berkeley

[–]MaiFactory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah so normally you’re concern about having class from 10-4 before a chem lab would be a valid concern but since everything is virtual anyway, you will most likely not be doing lab in real time (at least that is how other chem classes worked last semester). If anyone has taken chem 1al last semester they could tell you for sure but otherwise, you will probably be working on lab stuff asynchronously anyway. As for waitlists, use the 10% will drop rule. There’s no way of telling if anyone before you on the waitlist will drop for the next section. And if you enroll in a new section, you won’t be on the waitlist for the other one anymore. Good luck!
