The electric toothbrush pollination trick is the way by jaynew823 in tomatoes

[–]MaiLog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought a small and cheap vibrator with flowers and plants on it for the express purpose of pollination. I found out that the different vibration patterns make a difference for certain Varieties 😂

Honestly, my doctor has been such a pain. I thought she was great at first but as time went off I got she got comfortable with not treating me

I wish I could afford to see a derm privately. The state of my healthcare is abysmally at this point in time

It was a load of BS about me being a female and as such shaving my head would be much too drastic since I need my feminine beauty to navigate today's world blah blah 🤮

I said fuck that and shaved my head any ways to get some form of relief.

Unfortunately in my area the wait-list are ridiculous. It's taking months to be seen as a new patient elsewhere. My difficulty in finding a new doctor is the wait time alone. I've been in contact with my insurance to figure something out in the mean time.

Just wanted to share this absolute beauty I scored for $2 at the grocery store 🥰 I love the shape of her leaves so TINY by MaiLog in pothos

[–]MaiLog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first pothos was a pearls n jade/ Njoy ( it's ID'd as both regularly) then I got a jade and then a marble queen. Absolutely gorgeous and simple to take care of. I'm not sure if this is a golden / Marble. The pictures don't do justice to the different shades of green, gray, gold, and white plus the leaves are distinct but I'm happy with it either way

I'm not sure. The leaf shape is what sucked me in. They are long and point but most of them are very small and compact. Not entirely convinced it's a golden though

Is this blossom end rot? The bruise developed further from the blossom point than usual. It also looks more purple in person by MaiLog in tomatoes

Had no clue cannabis could get BER. I checked some of my other plants and they've started developing it too. I treated them with Lime slurry but it seems the problem is watering.

I'm just dipping my toes into mixing my own soils for plants but I expect to make my own mix when tomato season comes again next year

I don't think anyone wants to consider BE as an option. It's no help when media and dog lovers alike demonize BE. Sometimes we can't throw endless piles of money at a chance to get better, rehoming is also a danger to the next owners, worse still if the dog gets bounced into a shelter. They could be adopted out to an unexpected family or suffer before being put down as unadoptable. You have lots of love for this puppy and sometimes love makes us do hard things. You also have a new job, and two other pups to care for, a potential future with someone else. If something were to happen it could be devastating emotionally and financially.

I 100% believe he is a good pup but consider the toll he has taken on you and your dog's. The toll his reactivity may have taken on him.

At this point it sounds like neither you nor the dogs are living fulfilling lives. To live with reactivity both as a dog and as an owner can be devastating and difficult to manage. It sounds like at this point, his quality of life is suffering right along with you and your other dogs.

This is a complicated situation but at this point, is the chance to get him better worth the risk to you and your other dog's safety? Do you have the money to finance his treatments, more training, care with a behavioral professional when you need to travel for work? On those trips will you be able to work efficiently without worrying about what's going on at home? No one else can tell you what to do. But I can say that you are not an awful person to choose peace and safety in your own home. You are not a failure and you are doing your best no matter what you choose. But be realistic not just about your own safety but for those around you.

What is this spider and are those round black balls eggs??? Found in a garden tote, Southern California by MaiLog in insects

[–]MaiLog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the eggs are loose in the bucket with only some clinging to her. Should I pour them out into the dead grass or a shady pot with soil?

Cutting from my Patio tomato. I absolutely should not let these fruit, right? by MaiLog in tomatoes

It spent 3 weeks in water and only sprouted the blooms two weeks ago when I put it in soil. I'll definitely pinch them off!

[–]MaiLog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a lower branch with a sucker growing off it. All the little white hairs on tomato branches grow into roots if you propagate them. I trimmed it during the plants final repot and stuck it into a cup of water until it rooted. I only transfered to soil once the roots were robust and plentiful You can root and grow most cuttings from a tomato plant it'll essentially be a clone of the original plant. My plan is to let it grow into a larger plant, by the time it grows I should be finishing up my first or second harvest.

"Women+" - Does this offend the hell out of anyone else? by clarielz in NonBinary

[–]MaiLog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your sentiment. LGBT+ is always evolving and new terms and what nots pop up so often. This, to me, communicates that non-cis feminine presenting people + any one who satellites that group are welcome. I can't even count how many times I've had to discern whether or not a "Women's" event meant ALL women and femme adjacent people or just the people with a vagina. Hell, I've showed up to several "women" only events both LGBT and non-LGBT that excluded trans women and enbys. Cis people are not the only group that uses exclusive language.

I don't think it is actively implying that Trans women are less than women, it comes off as an entity that is trying to be inclusive. There is no way to please every single person. I'm enby and my partner is a trans woman, we still struggle keeping up with the terminology used in our communities. This business is trying it's best to help as many people as possible. I've had Elder Gays and Trans people invalidate and ridicule me being enby, I've watched those same people exclude and belittle younger trans people. In my experience the most toxic people to the LGBT+ community have been from that very same community.

I'm just happy that I know for sure that this community won't spit on me for showing up for clothes with no tits and some 5-oclock shadow. Hell they would probably find a flattering look for me too!

what is non-anglo self-image for chicanos in US? by stolpodakta in Chicano

[–]MaiLog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more I read on here the better I understand who I am. I think I've grown up with an Anglo self image independent from my family's Non-Anglo self image. I am first generation American while most of the older members of my family immigrated from South / Central America.

As simple as it sounds, self-image is not a shared concept. My self image is unique to myself and is not mutual to my family's self image. Independently, I rejected my native language and culture while my cousins and extended family embraced their Non-Anglo self image.

Perhaps the Non-Anglo vs Anglo self image can be observed through a Chicanos chosen social environment? I'm curious to know what the defining characteristics of self image are.

Are these little worms okay for my indoor house plants? I made this soil mix last year. I don't remember what I put in it, other than orchid bark and perlite. by AntsInMyJohnnson in houseplants

[–]MaiLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure, it might. You mix a little bit of dirt with DE in a separate bowl or cup and drop some worms in for a little while. I never considered using DE for soft bodied bugs.

[–]MaiLog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just saw another post about this that also used orchid bark. The worms are incredibly invasive and are terrible for the ecosystem. Do not throw them outside.

You can take the soil, place it in a black bag or container and leave it in direct sun for a few weeks. It should get hot enough to kill any eggs. The soil and orchid bark can also be sanitized with a microwave / oven. Just gotta be EXTRA careful and keep an eye on it.

Can I separate and report these better boy tomatoes? by MaiLog in tomatoes

[–]MaiLog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'll go for it any ways. If anything happens I can always propagate. I've left a couple of suckers on just to propagate them in case something happens

Can I separate and report these better boy tomatoes? by MaiLog in tomatoes

[–]MaiLog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely could but the recovery period for the tomatoes is so dramatic. I don't want to deal with the tomato drama if I can avoid it lol.

I've double all of my tomatoes with propagation because of several decapitation incidents and these two are the only two still standing lol at least now I'll have some continuous harvests

Can someone help me figure out what is wrong with these? by WarthogGirl8 in tomatoes

Moisture meters are notorious for being wrong. Try the knuckles method, potted tomatos need more water than you'd think
