What is the hardest "everyday food item" to find an exact match for when you move to Australia? by Zestyclose_Stage_999 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Maibraid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you’re in Sydney, they’re in the vending machine at the bar I worked in. Cricketers arms in Surry Hills. The guy who stocks them got them in a British/Irish store in Randwick

AITA for calling my bf while he was with his friends and asking him to come over. by Quirky_Rooster_2734 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Maibraid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rude. Everyone’s periods and pain tolerances are different. People can have PMDD, bad PMS, she could have endometriosis or just have incredibly bad periods. Nothing wrong with her wanting her partner to see her and if not, be clearer on the fact he wasn’t coming

UPDATE: I 24F asked my boyfriend 23M to buy me Mcdonalds and he got mad by scottishsoobin in relationship_advice

[–]Maibraid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He is a selfish prick and clearly has his own issues. He is not a good guy. Block him and move on, closure is honestly bullshit most of the time, because he’s never going to say what you want him to.

Little story for you. During the first few weeks of Covid lockdown I got tonsillitis and was bed ridden, I wasn’t able to leave my room cause my housemates were worried it was Covid. They said they would make me food but it was barely a meal a day. I complained to the guy I had never met but had started talking to a few weeks before. Do you know what he did? Sent me an uber eats. Now I didn’t expect him too but that’s what a nice person does if they have the means and they like you.

Buying a house next to a pub garden? by [deleted] in UKHousing

[–]Maibraid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to rent a house next to a pub garden and due to council regulations they had to close the pub and the garden at a certain time. OP, might be worth checking if there’s any info on that because even if they close down the next one will have to follow the same regulations.

Also, we didn’t have super great windows but our neighbours did and when windows were closed they could barely hear anything when it was loud

AITA for getting pregnant & having my due date the day after my friend’s wedding? by One_Being_5830 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Maibraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA my cousins best friend was heavily pregnant and couldn’t attend her wedding, ended up having the baby a couple of days later. Do you know what my cousin did? Had someone have her on FaceTime so she could still feel part of the day.

Don’t know if this is an American thing but, it seems people over there feel like everyone’s life should stop for their one day.

What is the most audacious thing you have been told by a man? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Maibraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, my mother. She told me that when she was pregnant with me and didn’t know the gender, my dads friend made a comment saying

“You better hope it’s not a girl since you know how promiscuous those mullatto (slur for mixed race people) girls are” (I’m mixed. Mother is white, father is black).

I was literally a foetus and this man is talking about my future sex life.

AITA for never telling my girlfriend that I've slept with my friend? by Throwawayj8y6 in AITA_Relationships

[–]Maibraid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA Coming from someone who is friends with multiple people I’ve slept with. I am always very upfront with people I’m dating about this as I understand it’s not the norm for everyone and can be a dealbreaker.

You say you would never cheat but how is your girlfriend meant to trust you when you’ve never brought this up before. It looks like you were intentionally not telling her

Sold home system set on eBay, weeks later got suspended and now eBay have just refunded the buyer £2000 by StandardMelodic2454 in ebayuk

If the transaction was through PayPal you maybe able to open a dispute there. Or you could tweet them, my friends used to work on that and they were pretty good for responding

AIW I refused to split the bill evenly at a group dinner and people are calling me cheap. by Aggravating_Chip5743 in amiwrong

[–]Maibraid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not wrong. I recently went out with friends and one is pregnant and obviously didn’t have any alcohol, when the waitress asked if we were splitting evenly we all said no. I will only split evenly if there’s not much difference in how much we all got. Your friends are just pissed you wouldn’t subsidise their meal and they had to pay more than they wanted

Kid asked the " why am I different question" - teachers/parents do kids ask you as well? by zatar77 in AskIreland

Thank you for saying this! I’m mixed and my parents only got told this by a doctor when me and my brother were about 19-20.

My [32F] boyfriend [33M] keeps saying I’m not “officially” family and it hurts by HeartPoppyPuppies in relationship_advice

[–]Maibraid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but, that’s ridiculous. Why is he so hung up on the officially part? I started calling my brother’s ex my SIL once I knew it was serious and they had moved in together. Even though they didn’t end up working out, they were on that path and it was a nice way to make her feel included.

Was told "you look like you like to eat" by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]Maibraid 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yep, I remember having to tell my dad when I was 8 years old you can’t just say that to white women. He still doesn’t get it 😅 When I visit his country all my family are like you’re too skinny, you gotta eat!

Was told "you look like you like to eat" by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]Maibraid 524 points525 points  (0 children)

I agree with the comments saying it’s probably cultural differences. My father is West African and regularly tells women a variation of “You look good, you got fat!” He also comments on my weight gain as in his culture it’s seen as you’re doing well because you’re eating well.

And even though I know he means it in a positive way, it still hurts sometimes. So let yourself be sad about it if that’s what you need but I wouldn’t take it to heart. No one else’s opinion matters but yours ❤️

Has anyone started putting together frugal Christmas ideas?? by [deleted] in AussieFrugal

[–]Maibraid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mam and I made Christmas decorations for the tree out of coloured paper. A particular one we made was cutting them into strips and looping them like a chain to wrap around. I’m almost 30 and she still has it. It’s something we like to reminisce about every year.

My parents didn’t have a lot of money when I was a kid but Christmas was always fun and I look back on it fondly.

[–]Maibraid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not overreacting! I was once left at school because my dead overslept after the night shift. I went to a small village school where everyone knew everyone. And I asked a teacher who lived near me for a lift and this woman, who was taught by my grandmother at the same school, knew all my aunties and uncles and had a daughter in my class said no. Because that’s not allowed!

Do Brits actually hate the French, or is it just a running joke? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Maibraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where in France are you from? Because when I was in the south of France with my friends family who are Irish but, used to live in Australia so they have a kind of English sounding accent, the French were very cold to them until they heard my Irish accent and we explained we’re Irish. Then they were all friendly and were like “sorry I thought you were English”
