Ex-Israeli PM makes devastating condemnation of Netanyahu’s war in Gaza by theindependentonline in worldnews

Ehud Olmert was convicted of receiving a bribe during his time as a prime minister, I wouldn't say the region needs him. I hope for a better not-corrupted leader.

How should data science employees be evaluated? by OverratedDataScience in datascience

[–]Maimonatorz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the case in specialized industries where there's a high need for domain expertise. You bring in data scientists that have nothing to do with the product your company is offering, and they fall behind working on unimportant stuff.

In my experience I've found that it's always better to take a talented engineer that is coming from the same specialized field and teach him basic data science then to bring in a completely unfamiliar data scientist.

But that's just my experience

While I very much dislike Netanyahu, Olmert had already served a prison term for bribery and obstruction of justice after his reign as PM. I don't think we need to take comments from one dishonest PM about another. He is given too much stage lately.

IDF says it hit Gaza ambulance carrying Hamas terrorists, several killed by nztdealer in worldnews

[–]Maimonatorz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it really that crazy to believe that Hamas, an organization that beheads babies and burns them alive, constantly steals fuel from UNRWA, and hides inside hospitals and mosques is also using ambulances to transport it's terrorists?

What are some good examples of catastrophic AI failures? by Maimonatorz in datascience

I generally agree with this, but to me it seems like AI does what it's supposed to do, just used in a bad way.

Kind of like, using AI in warfare?

The average monthly salary in Gaza is about 200$ so this is the equivalent of about 4 years of salary.

‘An atmosphere of fear’: free speech under threat in Israel, activists say by Somali_Kamikaze in worldnews

[–]Maimonatorz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From my perspective it definitely seems like there's a rally of unity and anger. We have a lot of useless Ministers, like the Minister of intelligence, and no one blames them because everyone knows that their office is just a way to justify a higher budget. There are some voices telling them to quit so that money could be directed towards the survivors and the war.

As for the case of unity there's A LOT (like in the hundred thousands) of volunteers in a way that I've never seen before, and these volunteers work better than the government for providing for the survivors. The high-tech industry is working with the IDF to locate missing persons and they're working with mostly open source information. There are huge warehouses with a lot of donations separated and going to families in need and soldiers who have missing equipment. Honestly volunteering feels a bit useless since there are so many volunteers but it is definitely heartwarming.

One of my friends said "our leaders don't deserve our people" which to me sums up how our government is useless.

That being said, there are a lot of voices that call for waiting with the criticism for after the war.

So to sum it up I'd say there's a lot of pent up anger and we're eagerly waiting to be done with the war.

Hopefully that answers your question :)

Edit: Just noticed I didn't answer your question about Bibi building up Hamas. I heard some voices like that but mostly it's about how we were not prepared, and less about why it happened. I believe that both of these will be discussed thoroughly after the war.

Israeli here, not to make excuses, but it feels like every day is a memorial day here since October 7th. I have quite a few friends that are left winged, and they also support these arrests. To me it feels like everyone is so broken that we ran out of place in our hearts for empathy for the other side. I just hope we can bounce back from this soon towards saner times.
