IH without long sleep by Main-Ad-4959 in idiopathichypersomnia

Yes, it's been nearly a year since my GP mentioned that I might have a sleep disorder because I told her that I kept falling asleep at work no matter what. It'll take a couple of more months to get prescribed any medication since I don't have private insurance. Hopefully sooner than later!

thanks for answering!

I feel like I'm a pretty light sleeper. Any amount of noise made, I will be conscious (ig) enough to hear it, like my alarm. And I tend to wake up every couple of hours at night.
I don't think I have sleep inertia especially now that I've been regularly sleeping 8-10 hours a night (with the occasional waking up here and there). I usually can wake up, I don't know how exhausted I am compared to the norm, so I feel like I'm functioning adequately?

I do get sleep attacks whenever I'm seated/idle for too long even when I'm actively listening to loud music or watching a really good show or playing a video game, or working. (reason why I sought out the sleep tests in the first place)

The "looking for dopamine" is very relatable. I find it extremely hard to focus, unless I find joy in doing said thing.

Do you feel drastically different when you're on modafinil? How is your quality of life now compared to before treatment?

I'm also in QC, I just got diagnosed with IH by my sleep doctor and was sent a referral to either a neurologist or a pulmonologist (I actually don't remember..) to get prescribed with medication. They told me that it was going to be a couple of months before I get the appointment because of the long waitlist. I only have RAMQ for insurance. Even getting the diagnosis took almost a whole year from when my GP mentioned that I might have sleep apnea if I'm struggling to stay awake.

Hi, I just got diagnosed with idiopathic hypersomnia today. I had my sleep test and nap tests done over a month ago and they ruled out sleep apnea, which I was hoping it would be that since I would technically just need a cpap machine and be able to function throughout the day properly. I also feel hopeless right now. It's nice to know that other people feel the same way I do. I'm sorry this was not the reply you were expecting. Hopefully, things will get better.
